2. Scientists Unite to Prevent AI Bio-Weapons 🧑‍🔬

Ninety top-notch scientists recently penned a letter to tackle the looming threat of AI being misused to create bio-havoc by designing new viruses and toxins. This letter serves as a manifesto for responsible AI use in crafting proteins, the fundamental building blocks of life. The key takeaway? These brainiacs aren't calling for an AI ban; instead, they're advocating for strict regulation of the tools used to whip up genetic materials.

3. President Biden Calls for Ban on AI Voice Impersonations 🚫

President Biden is urging for a ban on AI voice impersonations in his State of the Union speech, aiming to protect against potential misuse in the entertainment and tech sectors. 🦾How You Can Leverage:

AI’s like a baby cradle — it’s gonna rock us all.

For better or worse, artificial intelligence is going to have an increasingly impactful role in our lives.

Businesses will change.

The economy will change.

Our lives will change.

It’s a lot to handle. Luckily, we tag-teamed with an expert today to help us make sense of it all.

James Hudson is the CEO for AI for Good, a leading global authority on responsible AI.

AI for Good is a global organization of business leaders that uses AI to create positive social change.

Their goal is to harness the power of emerging technologies to make the world a better place for everyone.

In other words, as CEO, James knows a thing or three about how AI will impact society.

If you’re curious what impact AI will have on our society, we recommend going to give today’s episode a listen

It’s deep and thought-provoking.

If you’re looking for the quick takeaways, we’ve got you there, too. 🤝

1 – AI can build up distressed communities 🔨

James says AI For Good is kinda like a techy SWAT team, responding to calls of distress.

But with AI. 🤖

When there’s an economic, political or natural disaster that impacts nations across the globe, that’s where AI For Good can do its work.

Traditionally, we think of aid as grants, money or food. But those things can be temporary.

In today’s show, James told us how AI For Good is flipping the switch on what providing aid means, and what it can do in the long run.

Monetary aid can be mismanaged or be temporary. Investing AI and technology into distressed communities can have a lasting impact.

We had convos on the show before about how we can use AI for good.

Also, this Thomson Reuters piece explores how AI can be treated like a natural resource.

2 – AI will shake the job market 💼

There’s no denying this.

When you talk about societal impact, James says you can’t overlook the impact AI will have on the labor market.

And it won’t always be positive.

Because what happens when AI works?

It forces us to think about what we want as a society. What types of jobs are important. What type of work is needed in an AI-powered future.

James talked about the need for more discussion around policy makers and economists on long-term solutions, and not necessarily taking cues from tech CEOs about the future of work.

In the same way AI can cause job displacement, though, it can plant the seeds for future innovation.

Worried about AI’s impact on your job? Instead of wondering what will happen, take advantage of AI to help you find a new career.

3 – AI can bolster local economies 📈

Especially in distressed areas where AI For Good works, James stressed the importance of local.

AI can be a driving force for societal good, but it has to be a grassroots effort.

James highlighted the need for more AI-based education in schools, from coding and AI literacy to entrepreneurship.

James also talked about distressed communities treating AI and technology more like an asset — if they can operate technology and keep it local, they can use the benefits to build more resilient communities.

More ongoing education for schools.

More grants for small businesses.

More community innovation hubs.

If local communities can treat AI and technology as a local resource, they can use it to be a stabilizing force.
