1. Mistral Levels Up Le Chat with Deep Research and Multilingual Smarts 🔋
French AI lab Mistral just rolled out a major update to its Le Chat bot, adding a “deep research” mode that rivals OpenAI’s and Google’s offerings by scouring diverse web sources for thorough answers. The upgrade also brings native multilingual reasoning—think seamless switching between French, Spanish, Japanese, and more—and advanced image editing tools.
Crucially, Mistral is focusing on enterprise users with secure on-premises data connectors, allowing companies in banking or defense to leverage AI without risking cloud exposure.
2. Class Action Against Anthropic for Copyright Theft Gets Green Light ⚖️️
A California federal judge has allowed a class action lawsuit to proceed against Anthropic, accusing the AI company of downloading up to seven million pirated books to train its chatbot Claude, potentially affecting all U.S. authors whose works were involved.
This ruling comes amid ongoing legal battles surrounding AI training data, including a recent decision that fair use applies only to legally purchased books, leaving allegedly pirated content subject to trial.
3. Adobe Unveils New AI Tools for Sound and Video Creation 🎥️
Adobe just rolled out new generative AI filmmaking features in its Firefly app, letting users create custom sound effects through onomatopoeia-like voice recordings and guide video movement with reference footage. The new Generate Sound Effects tool, now in beta, offers precise audio syncing that outperforms competitors like Google’s Veo 3, making it easier to match sounds like footsteps or twigs snapping to video.
Additionally, Firefly’s Text-to-Video generator gains advanced controls including composition referencing, keyframe cropping, and style presets such as anime and claymation—though the latter still needs polish.
4. Meta and AWS Join Forces to Boost AI Startups 🤝
Meta and Amazon Web Services have launched a new program offering 30 U.S. startups $200,000 in AWS cloud credits and six months of technical support to build AI tools on Meta’s open-source Llama model.
This initiative, announced ahead of the AWS Summit in New York, aims to accelerate AI innovation by combining Meta’s ambitious AI push with AWS’s cloud infrastructure expertise.
5. UAE’s Nvidia AI Chip Deal Hits a Security Snag ⚠️
A high-profile agreement allowing the UAE to purchase billions in Nvidia AI chips is currently on hold amid U.S. national security concerns over potential chip diversion to China, according to The Wall Street Journal.
Though safeguards were promised by UAE and Saudi officials, fears of smuggling have intensified recently, prompting the U.S. to consider tighter export controls, including on countries like Thailand and Malaysia.
6. AI Giants Flunk Safety Planning as AGI Nears Reality 🚨
A new report from the Future of Life Institute reveals that leading AI companies, including OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic, are seriously underprepared for managing the risks of artificial general intelligence (AGI), with none scoring above a D in existential safety planning.
Despite racing toward human-level AI, these firms lack clear, actionable strategies to keep future super-intelligent systems safe and controllable. This raises urgent concerns about how rapidly advancing AI could impact society.
🦾How You Can Leverage:
