🦾How You Can Leverage:

Maybe you’re in HR.

Maybe you’re not.

Either way, the future of the workplace largely depends on what kinda AI recipes the HR department is cooking up.

Jen gave us a tour of the kitchen, though, so we can all prepare for what’s coming. (And she knows a thing or three, given her 28+ years of experience and even serving on IBM’s AI Ethics Board.)

What should we be aware of with AI in HR? How are work policies changing? Will future HR departments just be cute robots that beep-boop policies?

Let’s give it the 1-2-3 treatment on how we can keep up 👇

1 – Know the HR future is hybrid 🤖

Jen was unequivocal in her statement — the future of HR is a hybrid mix of AI and personal human touch. The power of Generative AI is too much to overlook. Yet, Human Resources is too …. Er, HUMAN … to completely automate.

Try this:
Ready for some deep listening? McKinsey did a deep dive recently on the future of HR with Generative AI. Go give it a read/listen.

2 – Know the AI rules 📃

Red tape and HR? Who woulda thought?

Jokes aside, the legal side of AI and HR is a big deal. Jen mentioned a handful of privacy and legal concerns in ethical implementation of AI, mentioning everything from the highly visible NYC 144 law on restrictions on AI in hiring, to the OFCCP initiative to restrict certain AI-powered hiring tools.

Try this:
We get it. That’s a lotta legal to digest.

Luckily, Jen already broke down some of the most important AI laws for people in Human Resources and Talent Acquisition. Go read her overview here.

3 – Get governance in order 🧑‍⚖️

Jen brought up SUCH a good point — employees in companies big and small want to use Generative AI tools. And here’s a secret, HR peeps: many of your employees are already using GenAI tools and keeping it to themselves. Better to address the elephant in the room, right? And employees — you should consider talking to your HR peeps if you’re using GenAI and talk about best practices.

Try this:
Like Jen suggested, HR departments should tackle the AI gray area with some Governance 101.

Jen mentioned by name our episode on governance with Katharina Koerner, and we’d also recommend checking out our show with John Chiapppetta on governance, and our talk with fellow IBMer Moe Alo on ethics
