How To Create a Private Server
in Midjourney 🔐

Midjourney looks cool and all, but what's this Discord thing? And how can I learn to create AI art when there's hundreds of messages popping up in the Discord server?

🤷‍♂️ What’s Going On and Why It Matters:

Making images in seconds?

Yup.

All it takes is a keyboard and a Midjourney account.

While ChatGPT grabs the headlines and our attention, we can’t look past Midjourney. Even though Midjourney is going head-to-head with the likes of Open AI’s DALL·E 2 and other behemoths, the small private company has quickly become a favorite of AI fans, artists and photographers alike.

Our take: Midjourney is heads and shoulders above most other AI image generators such as DALL·E 2. (Although Stable Diffusion’s new XL 1.0 model is giving Midjourney a run for the money.)

We know what you’re thinking — are AI image generators even any good? And are they actually usable?

Yes and yes. As you saw on today's livestream.

Also, the quality of the AI output has shot through the roof. When the text-to-image craze started about 18 months ago, the output was …. Meh.

We generated a few images live on the show this AM.

Let’s look at how far the tech has come.

Here’s what the prompt: "Darth Vader eating cake on a pegasus” generated in Version 1:

And here’s what the same prompt generated in V5.2 live on our show:

Midjourney’s got your attention now?

Good, let’s get creative with it 👇

🦾How You Can Leverage:

Maybe you’re a Midjourney master or it might be the first time you’ve heard of Midjourney.

Either way, it can actually be overwhelming. (In a good way)

In our beginner’s guide to Midjourney, we unpacked a lot.

If you’re not sure how or where to start, we got you. Here’s the easiest 1-2-3 to get you using Midjourney in no time.

1 – Splurge, even just for a month 💸

Here’s the thing — there’s no shortage of ways you can leverage Midjourney.

Original art. Modifying and blending our current photos. Swapping your face on AI images. Creating logos, backgrounds or textures. Mood boards and website mockups. Better stock images for your company blog post or Powerpoint presentation. Midjourney can take care of all of that, for a very small price of $10/mo.

Try this:
Don’t let the fact that Midjourney is a paid software deter you from using it. For just $10 a month, you can get your hands on what we think is easily one of the most powerful AI platforms out there. Try it for one month, and see how it can grow your career/company/department.

2 – Use newbie and private servers 🕵️‍♂️

We hear ya. Discord servers?! Whhhhhhhhaaaaaa?

Don’t worry, if you’ve used Slack or Microsoft Teams Chat, you’ll be able to find your way around Discord. In short, Midjourney is run through Discord servers.

So, you’ll need a free Discord account in addition to your paid Midjourney plan. And once inside, you’ll see Midjourney uses public servers by default. (Think of these as channels or rooms). The newbie channels are great to see what prompts people are using and see the results they generate. But, you’ll want to go private as well.

Try this:
Find good examples that you like in the group/newbie chats, and then create your own private server and tweak the prompts to get your best results.

3 – Ask questions & join Friday for Pt. 2

Go get your hands dirty. If you haven’t already, it’s worth trying. Midjourney, like ChatGPT, only gets better the more you use it and find new applications for you.

Try this:
Go ask us questions in today’s comments, and carve out time on Friday to join us for Pt. 2.

Now This …
