1. Microsoft Adjusts Copilot Strategy in Subscription Plans š°
Microsoft has integrated its Copilot Pro AI features into Microsoft 365 Personal and Family subscriptions, but with a catch: prices are climbing. This change, currently limited to select markets in Australia, New Zealand, and parts of Asia, offers subscribers a taste of AI-powered tools without the hefty $20 per month fee previously proposed.
However, existing subscribers will face price hikes as Microsoft justifies this move by citing the added value over the past decade. As Microsoft tests these waters abroad, it could signal future changes for users in the U.S. and Europe, making it crucial for professionals to keep a close eye on their subscription costs and benefits.
2. Anthropic Partners with Palantir and AWS for Defense AI šŖ
In a significant move for the U.S. defense sector, Anthropic has announced a collaboration with Palantir and Amazon Web Services (AWS) to integrate its Claude AI models into Palantirās defense platform. This partnership allows intelligence agencies to leverage Claude's analytical capabilities in secure environments, enhancing their ability to process complex data and make informed decisions.
With a staggering 1,200% increase in AI-related government contracts noted by the Brookings Institute, this deal underscores the growing demand for advanced AI solutions in critical sectors.
3. Trumpās AI Plans: A New Era for AI and Tech Giants? š
With Donald Trump back in the White House, Silicon Valley is bracing for a seismic shift in its relationship with the federal government. Trump plans to dismantle Biden's executive order on artificial intelligence, which sought to implement safety measures for this rapidly evolving technology. Additionally, a Trump administration is likely to adopt a hands-off approach to antitrust enforcement, potentially paving the way for more mergers and acquisitions in the tech sector.
This shift could reshape the landscape for companies and professionals in AI, as they navigate a less regulated environment that may spur innovation but also raise concerns over safety and competition.
4. AMD Unveils Game-Changing AI Chips š§āš»ļø
At its recent Advancing AI event, AMD marked CEO Lisa Su's 10-year anniversary with significant announcements, including its latest EPYC datacenter CPUs and the MI325X GPU, aimed at revolutionizing AI performance. With a staggering 17-fold increase in datacenter CPU market share over four generations, AMD is positioning itself to challenge NVIDIA's dominance in AI GPUs, currently holding a mere 5% to 10% of the market.
As enterprises ramp up their AI capabilities, AMD's strategic focus on partnerships and software like ROCm is crucial for gaining traction against entrenched competitors.
5. Microsoft Revamps Notepad with AI Magic š
Microsoft has unveiled the upcoming "Rewrite" feature for Notepad, allowing users to effortlessly rephrase sentences, adjust tone, and modify text length using AI, as reported on the Windows Insider Blog. Currently available in preview for Windows Insiders, this feature requires users to log into their Microsoft account to access its cloud-powered capabilities.
Alongside this update, Paint is set to introduce AI-driven tools like Generative Fill and Generative Erase, enhancing creativity by allowing users to manipulate images based on prompts.
Is Claude Artifacts Good at Data Analysis?
Not gonna lie ā weāve long preferred ChatGPT over Anthropicās Claude. But, Anthropicās 3.5 Sonnet brought an amazing new feature: Artifacts.
So weāre showing you one quick and powerful use case for Artifacts - how to visualize your data.
Check out today's AI in 5.
š¦¾How You Can Leverage:
Your ideas have zero value.
For decades, innovation has revolved around the ability for creative and strategic people to ideate.
Ya knowā¦. Throw stuff at the wall and see what sticks. Not anymore, Mike Todasco said.
Mike is the former Head of Innovation at PayPal and a current Visiting Professor of AI at San Diego State University.
In other words, heās built his career on being innovative. And he minced zero words in saying traditional ideation is all but out the window.
So, how should we be innovating now?
How do we know what Large Language Model our companies should be using?
And how can we still be innovative when starting or growing companies?
Make sure to check out todayās entire episode, as Itās an instant classic.
If you want the tl;dw version, letās get it.
Hereās your 1-2-3s on maintaining an innovative edge in the world of AI everywhere.
1 ā AI always comes second āļø
Yeah, Mike said your ideas have zero value. But, that comes with a caveat.
Because right now, our ideas are really just rocket fuel for LLMs, Mike said.
After leading hundreds of brainstorming and innovation sessions at high levels, Mike admits the first ideas humans have kinda suck.
And often, it can take countless hours to go from original ideas to polished innovation that can spark growth.
Try this:
That aināt the case anymore.
Human ideas are just fodder for AI iteration. Mike gave a simple and practical exercise of AI-powered innovation.
First, let your brain have a go at solving a business problem. Write down your best problem-solution statements on paper.
Then, take a photo and feed them into a LLM (or three). Then, ask the model to improve your ideas and give you more and better action steps.
Make sure to iterate at each step, Mike said, giving LLMs feedback on which of its ideas are good and which stink.
Keep going. Iterate and repeat. Mike said effective innovation today requires be a taste director, not an idea collector.
You have to be able to finesse a LLM then execute on ideas.
Mike also suggested using a handful of LLMs at once, which we showed you how to do here.
2 ā Find your problem-obsession š¢
Itās no secret that the pace of business innovation is legit too fast now.
You canāt do year-long AI pilots.
You canāt kick the can around on business opportunities or threats.
After using AI to execute faster (as detailed above), Mike highlighted the importance of being obsessed with problem solving.
Because no matter how much AI changes your business or your customerās daily lives, theyāre still have problems.
Try this:
Mike referenced Jeff Bezosā early ability to hone in on Amazonās customersā every problem.
Even though Amazonās product offerings changed from just selling books, their problem-obsession never shifted.
Their customer wanted things cheaper and faster.
Hereās the reality, though, shorties.
Industries are shifting years in months. Categories are popping up and falling down like Whack-A-Mole.
Like Mike said, youāve gotta be more in-tune than ever with your customerās problems.
Otherwise, itās innovation wasted.
Hereās a great read ā an essential guide on how to better know your customers in todayās day and age of AI.
3 ā Size donāt matter š¤·
Thanks to his background at PayPal, Mike has a deep history in Silicon Valley and a deep understanding of the worldās most innovative companies.
For too long, Mike said a company or departmentās game-changing potential was often judged on the size of its teams.
If you had a combustible product or service, your human team would balloon.
If not, you may have lacked resources.
As weird as it sounds, you donāt need a giant super team to be super successful.
Try this:
Mike laid out this scenario for small businesses, startups and even departments trying to grow their impact and revenue.
In decades past, you might want a know-it-all data analytics person on your team.
And maybe HR.
And probably a handful of other roles.
Now, Mike pointed out thereās capable AI agents that can fill a great majority of those roles.
So instead of having the largest teams, your ātank of innovationā might be measured by having a large team of agent orchestrators on board.
For more on this, make sure you tune in tomorrow to see how AI agents can bridge the gap to the future of enterprise work.
