1. Amazon's New AI Tool Answers Shoppers' Questions 🛒
Amazon is taking customer service to the next level with its latest AI tool that can provide instant answers to shoppers' inquiries about products. The feature, powered by generative AI, saves users from the hassle of scrolling through countless reviews or product descriptions. It even has a creative side, capable of generating haikus or mimicking Yoda's speech style.
2. China Aims to Set Standards for AI Industry By 2026 🇨🇳
China's industry ministry has released draft guidelines to standardize the rapidly growing artificial intelligence (AI) industry. The proposal aims to establish more than 50 national and industry-wide standards for AI within the next five years. Additionally, China plans to actively contribute to the formation of more than 20 international AI standards by 2026.
3. Australia Takes Action to Regulate AI and Boost Trust 🇦🇺
Australia is establishing an AI advisory body to address potential risks. The government plans to collaborate with industry bodies to introduce guidelines, including labeling and watermarking content generated by AI. While AI is expected to boost the economy, the lack of trust in the technology is hindering its widespread adoption. Although the initial guidelines will be voluntary, Australia is taking steps to catch up with other nations.
4. US Lawmakers Question Scientist’s AI Research in China 🤔
Lawmakers in the US are raising concerns over a Chinese-born scientist, Song-Chun Zhu, who received tens of millions of dollars in federal research grants for advanced artificial intelligence (AI) projects. The lawmakers have sent letters to the Department of Defense, the National Science Foundation, and the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), demanding answers regarding the funding and potential transfer of sensitive research to China.
5. Salesforce CEO Thinks AI Should Be a Human Right 👀
Marc Benioff, co-founder and CEO of Salesforce, addressed the impact of AI at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He acknowledged AI as almost a human right along with the positive advancements brought about by AI. He also highlighted the need to be mindful of its potential negative consequences, such as creating inequality.
