1. Apple to Integrate Google Gemini and Anthropic AI Models in Fall 📲

Apple is about to level up its AI game by adding Google Gemini to its roster of chatbots this fall. This move comes after Apple software boss Craig Federighi hinted at a possible Google deal, sparking excitement in the tech community.

Speculations also point towards Apple Intelligence making its debut in beta form this fall, potentially introducing subscription-only features in the future.

2. Google's Gemini 15 Pro and 15 Flash Struggle with 'Long Context' Understanding 😬

Recent studies have shed light on the challenges faced by Google's advanced AI models, Gemini 15 Pro and 15 Flash, in comprehending extensive data sets. Despite Google's claims of breakthrough capabilities in processing long contexts, the research indicates a significant gap in the models' understanding and accuracy.

From struggling to answer questions based on large datasets to underperforming in video comprehension tasks, these findings raise questions about the true extent of AI comprehension.

3. Adept Turns to Agentic AI, Co-Founders Join Amazon AGI Team 🤝

Adept, a company specializing in enhancing human-computer interaction, has decided to fully concentrate on developing agentic AI solutions. This exciting shift involves key members of the team moving to Amazon's AGI organization while also licensing Adept's state-of-the-art technology.

With Zach Brock stepping up as the new CEO, backed by a wealth of experience, Adept is poised to lead the charge in transforming work processes for businesses of all sizes

4. CIR Sues OpenAI and Microsoft Over Copyright Dispute 👩‍⚖️

The Center for Investigative Reporting (CIR) is taking legal action against OpenAI and Microsoft for allegedly using their stories without permission. CEO Monika Bauerlein minced no words, accusing the tech giants of freeloading on their valuable journalistic work without offering compensation or seeking approval.

This showdown is getting serious, with The New York Times already shelling out $1 million in their own lawsuit against the companies.

5. Apple's Vision Pro to Get Apple Intelligence Features Soon 👁

Apple's high-end Vision Pro headset is set to receive the full suite of Apple Intelligence features, including an upgraded Siri and custom emojis. While not coming this year, the challenge lies in adapting these features for mixed reality.

Additionally, changes to the headset's demo experience and upcoming AirPods with infrared cameras hint at exciting future possibilities.

Anthropic Claude Projects: Better than ChatGPT’s GPTs?

We recently checked out Anthropic’s new projects feature and we have to say..It’s pretty dang good!

The feature essentially allows you to train your chats.

So we were curious to see, how does this new Projects feature stack up against ChatGPT’s GPTs?

We put the two to the test.

Ready to upgrade your brain to AI 2.0?

Here’s the AI news that matters y’all 👇

1 – Apple's betting big on "Intelligence" 🍏

According to recent reports from Bloomberg, Apple's kinda pulling a 180 on its hardware/software focus.

In short, Apple is aiming to extend device lifespans through its new Apple Intelligence AI, software support and repair services.

The upcoming iPhone 16 lineup will spotlight new "Apple Intelligence" features.

But here's the kicker - you'll need either the brand spanking new iPhone 16 or a newer iPhone 15 to get in on the action.

What it means:

Apple's walking a tightrope here.

They're gambling that millions of everyday people will upgrade their iPhones just for some AI magic, even as phone prices creep towards the $1,200 mark.

Yikes.

Our take — people aren't upgrading every year or two like they used to. And with free AI tools everywhere, is "Apple Intelligence" really worth the hefty price tag of getting a new phone?

Apple is hoping WAY more people say yes to that question than they normally would annually.

We already went waayyyyyy deep on the whole Apple Intelligence thang, and what we feel most people were overlooking after Apple’s big AI announcement.

2 – Time Magazine's doubles down on AI 📰

Time's not just reporting on AI - it’s diving in headfirst.

The traditional media and journalistic powerhouse inked a multi-year deal with OpenAI, giving Sam Altman and co. access to over 100 years of Time's archives.

But it's not a one-way street - Time gets to play with OpenAI's tech too.

Time wasn’t done with one big AI partnership, as they also teamed up with ElevenLabs to add AI-powered voiceovers to time.com.

What it means:

Time's making power moves while others are still trying to find the chess board. This could be a lifeline for Time and other legacy media struggling in the age of AI-powered news summaries.

The timing's impeccable too.

With lawsuits flying around faster than a game of AI Pong, Time's showing there might be a middle ground between suing tech giants and becoming obsolete.

We’ve said that traditional media companies essentially have three choices:

3 – Study: AI outsmarting human professors 🎓

Researchers at the UK’s University of Reading intentionally pulled a fast one that's got the academic world in a tizzy.

They submitted 33 AI-generated exam answers, and only one got flagged.

The kicker?

AI outperformed the human students. (Or, maybe that’s to be expected?)

We're talking unedited AI answers from GPT-4, submitted under fake student IDs for online assessments.

And these weren't just passing grades - they were top of the class.

What it means:

This isn't just a wake-up call for academia - it's a full-on fire alarm with a side of cold water to the face.

The U.S. higher education system’s got it all wrong with AI.

Some major U.S. universities are still on the fence with the AI policies and have been slow to the punch in terms of properly teaching students the most in-demand skills that employers want.

But let's not kid ourselves - the takeaway of this study should be ‘Oh, ChatGPT is passing the Turing test!’

Naaaaahhhh.

It's about our education system being as outdated as a floppy disk in a Tesla.

It's time to flip the script on education. We need to prep kids for a world where AI is a tool, not a threat.

Because right now, we're teaching them to compete with AI when we should be teaching them to collaborate with it.

Facepalm education system. Facepalm. 🤦

Go check out some of our recent Everyday AI episodes where we’ve discussed these problems in-depth with education experts.

4 – Anthropic's Claude gets a teamwork upgrade 🤝

Anthropic's not resting on its laurels after its VERY impressive Artifacts rollout.

They've just rolled out a new "Projects" feature for Claude AI, and it's all about collaboration.

And it’s pretty dang good.

Following in the footsteps of ChatGPT’s custom GPTs, Claude’s ‘Projects’ feature lets you kinda train and RAG your chats.

In other words, you can create a smaller, more focused version of Claude with your own data.

What it means:

Anthropic's gunning for the enterprise market with this one in our opinion. This move is all about making AI a team player, not just a solo act.

Sure, GPTs inside of ChatGPT have more upside. They’re free to use and free to share.

For Anthropic’s projects, you have to have a paid account just to use Projects and you need an even more expensive ‘Team’ plan to use your projects with multiple users.

Yet — it’s crazy powerful.

Except for that ONE thing….. Anthropic's still offline.

It's like having a Ferrari with no gas.

Until they bridge that gap, they're still playing catch-up with the likes of ChatGPT. And probably Google’s version of GPTs/Projects, called Gems. (Which obvi still isn’t out yet.)

That said, once Claude finally taps into the interwebs, watch out. Anthropic could leapfrog the competition faster than Simon Biles whips out triple flips.

Check out Claude Projects here.

5 – Will AI Al Michaels be a smash hit? 🥇

NBC's pulling an AI-powered wildcard for the Olympics that's got sports fans buzzing.

They're using AI to recreate Al Michaels' iconic voice for personalized AI Olympic recaps on Peacock.

Here's the play-by-play:

  • 10-minute personalized highlight packages for subscribers of Peacock

  • Approximately 7,000,000 different recap variations

  • Drawing from 5,000 hours of live coverage in Paris

  • Trained on Michaels' prior NBC broadcast audio

  • NBC Sports editors will oversee content for accuracy

The feature, not-so-creatively dubbed "Your Daily Olympic Recap on Peacock," drops July 27, 2024.

Oh, and Peacock JUST today hiked its ad-free price to $14 a month.

Coincidence? I think not.

What it means:

TBH, this is either gonna be the next big thing in sports broadcasting or a blooper reel waiting to happen.

We don’t see an in-between.

The Olympics are sport’s biggest stage. And Al Michaels is one of the world’s biggest sports voices.

If it works, it could revolutionize how we consume sports. Personalized highlights narrated by AI Al Michaels? That's like having a sports genie in your pocket.

But if it flops?

We're talking viral fail videos and enough cringe to make even curling exciting by comparison. Like AI Will Smith eating spaghetti 18 months ago.

The real kicker is the timing.

With all the whole "Will AI take our jobs?" panic, NBC's basically put a target on its back.

If this thang goes south, it'll be more than just NBC with egg on its face - it could set back public trust in AI by years.

What if AI Al Michaels goes rogue and the human editors miss it?

But hey, no pressure, NBC. You're just testing this on the world's biggest sporting event. What could go wrong?
