1. ChatGPT Desktop App Released For Windows 💻

OpenAI has officially rolled out a preview of its ChatGPT app for Windows, currently available only to Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users. This early version includes exciting features like the ability to chat about files and photos, marking a notable expansion of the platform’s capabilities. While it boasts some of the latest model enhancements, it still lacks voice support and certain integrations with OpenAI's GPT Store, which may limit its functionality for now.

The app’s unique “companion” window feature allows users to keep ChatGPT open alongside other applications, enhancing multitasking and productivity.

2. Google Cloud Powers Up Healthcare with Vertex AI 🏥

Google Cloud has made its Vertex AI platform generally available, alongside enhancements to its Healthcare Data Engine (HDE). These upgrades aim to streamline the healthcare landscape by allowing professionals to efficiently query health records and gain insights from diverse data sources.

Notably, the integration of MedLM—Google's groundbreaking generative AI model—promises to revolutionize clinical workflows, as it has already demonstrated the ability to tackle medical licensing exam questions.

3. Meta Teams Up with Blumhouse for AI-Driven Movie Magic 🎬

Meta has partnered with Blumhouse to generate short films using Movie Gen, a new suite of AI tools that enables users to create 16-second video clips from text prompts. This partnership, announced on October 17, 2024, features filmmakers like Aneesh Chaganty and Casey Affleck experimenting with AI-generated content, which could reshape how stories are told in the film industry.

While Blumhouse's CEO Jason Blum sees potential for these tools to enhance creativity, the broader adoption of AI in Hollywood has sparked mixed feelings, with some voices warning it could threaten traditional filmmaking.

4. Perplexity AI Unveils Two New Features 🤖

Perplexity AI announced the launch of two new features: Internal Knowledge Search and Spaces, aiming to revolutionize how users interact with information. Internal Knowledge Search allows users to seamlessly search both personal files and the web, enabling multi-step reasoning and code execution—an essential tool for enterprises seeking comprehensive research capabilities.

Meanwhile, the Spaces feature serves as a customizable AI-powered hub, allowing users to fine-tune their assistant according to specific project needs. However, the company faces scrutiny for alleged copyright infringements, raising questions about the ethics of AI data sourcing as it expands its offerings.

5. U.S. Military Eyes Deepfake Tech for Online Deception 🤯

The U.S. Special Operations Command has revealed plans to develop highly sophisticated deepfake technology capable of creating convincing online personas, according to a procurement document reviewed by The Intercept. This initiative aims to enhance information gathering from public forums, blurring the lines between reality and artificiality in digital interactions.

While the military seeks to harness these tools for strategic advantages, experts warn this could fuel a dangerous arms race in misinformation, particularly as adversaries like Russia and China have already employed similar tactics.

6. Motorola Unveils Next-Gen AI Features at Tech World ‘24 📱

At Lenovo’s Tech World ‘24, Motorola showcased its innovative moto ai, designed to transform smartphone use through personalized assistance, advanced features, and seamless connectivity. The tech giant introduced Large Action Models that can understand user behavior and execute commands, like ordering coffee or hailing rides, making daily tasks remarkably effortless.

🦾How You Can Leverage:

Apparently we just fast-forwarded 10 years into the AI future.

Parents gotta get schooled on AI.

In the same way that social media completely changed every aspect of kids’ lives, so too will Generative AI.

And it’s not just about understanding how AI shows up in the classroom.

With the breakneck speed of AI development, parents need to stay eagle eyed on the far-reaching influence AI will have on all aspects of their kids’ lives.

Stephanie Worrell knows about the duality of Generative AI.

As the founder of AI-MPOWERU, she consults parents 1-on-1 on AI literacy.

And as an adjunct professor at three different universities, she’s got a first-hand account of how AI is used (and sometimes not used) in the classroom.

She sees the promise and potential, as well as the fears and trepidations.

She joined Everyday AI today to investigate everything parents need to know on AI literacy.

The good, the bad and the friggin ugly.

Go give this one a read/watch/listen.

And let’s break down the highlights of what you need to know. 👇

1 – Educate yourself on AI dangers 🧑‍🏫

Let’s face it y’all — AI is more than a texting chatbot.

Yeah, there’s the shiny positive sides of the AI coin:

- Wider access to personalized education

- Democratizing knowledge for underserved areas

- The world’s knowledge at your fingertips

But, there’s also the ugly side of the AI coin.

Just like there’s huge downsides to social media, there’s some gross and dangers of too much AI, too soon for your kids. Stephanie said you’ve gotta look out for:

- Deepfakes of your child

- The addictive nature of creating a relationship with an AI system

- Over-reliance on AI and potentially de-emphasizing human relationships

Try this:

Did we tackle this in more depth in today’s show? Fosho.

Did we cover absolutely everything when it comes to AI literacy for parents? Nope.

If you’re REALLY looking for a deep dive, Common Sense Media has a super in-depth and free ebook that helps parents better understand all things AI.

2 – Better parent tutor = unlocked 🔓

Alright, got the ugly stuff outta the way.

Let’s focus on some more of the good.

One hidden upside Stephanie noted?

Don’t understand that common core math? Work through it with GeAI.

Not sure about how to explain the laws of physics? Work through it with GenAI.

What the frick is that middle stage of a caterpillar? Alright, you get it.

Try this:

Instead of blindly passing off homework help to a random AI system or telling junior to “ChatGPT it,” make it a joint learning session.

We reviewed a FANTASTIC GPT that helps you better learn any subject, no matter your expertise.

3 – AI preparedness in kids is now your job 🫵

Whether you’re trying to prepare your kids for their 5th grade science exam or trying to make sure your soon-to-be-college graduate isn’t living in your basement, you’ve gotta face a harsh reality.

Schools aren’t prepared to teach your kids AI.

Employers are demanding AI skills out of college.

Something not adding up there?

We understand.

Especially in the U.S., higher education has failed millions of students by blanket banning AI and not educating themselves on the topic.

Try this:

Luckily for you, we’re here to give you the GenAI basics even though the education system is failing.

We’ve got a HUGE and free library of AI in education content on our website, but here’s some of our favorites.

Consider this your take-home assessment to make sure your kid can keep pace in the AI-native world.
