1. Apple Intelligence: EU Mac Users Might Get the Green Light 🇪🇺
Apple's upcoming AI features, known as Apple Intelligence, will debut with iOS 18.1 and macOS Sequoia, but there's a catch—EU users won’t have access on iPhones and iPads. However, recent beta release notes reveal that Mac users in the EU might still benefit from these features.
This is significant as it indicates that Apple could circumvent the Digital Markets Act restrictions that apply to its mobile devices.
2. Dell Announces 12,500 Jobs Cut For AI Focus ✂️
Dell is making significant workforce reductions, cutting approximately 12,500 jobs just 15 months after laying off 13,000 employees. In an internal memo, executives Bill Scannell and John Byrne shared that the company is prioritizing AI products and restructuring its sales teams.
This latest round of layoffs represents about a 10% reduction in Dell's workforce of 120,000. The news follows Intel's recent announcement of 15,000 job cuts as both companies adapt to changing market demands.
3. Amazon's Titan Image Generator v2 🖼
Amazon just dropped the curtain on its Titan Image Generator v2, and it’s bringing some seriously cool features that let users create images like never before! This upgraded model allows you to “guide” your creations with reference images, edit existing visuals, and generate color-conditioned masterpieces based on specific palettes.
Plus, it can detect and segment multiple foreground objects, ensuring your images have that professional touch.
4. Intel's Missed AI Deal with OpenAI 😬
Intel had a chance to snag a 15% stake in OpenAI back in 2017 for $1 billion, but then-CEO Bob Swan thought generative AI was just a fad. Fast forward to 2022, and OpenAI launched ChatGPT, valued at a whopping $80 billion!
Now, Intel is struggling to keep up with competitors like Nvidia and AMD in the AI chip game, and their stock just took a nosedive, making them worth less than $100 billion for the first time in 30 years.
5. Palantir’s TITAN Takes Flight: U.S. Army’s High-Tech Upgrade 🪖
The U.S. Army just got a major tech boost with the delivery of its first Tactical Intelligence Targeting Access Node (TITAN) prototype, thanks to a hefty $178 million contract with Palantir Technologies. This game-changing system will help troops gather data from every corner—space, air, and land—while using AI to process it faster than ever, leaving the old-school methods in the dust.
With heavyweights like Northrop Grumman and L3Harris on board, Palantir is set to revolutionize military logistics after outshining RTX in a lengthy competition.
6. OpenAI Bets Big on Hardware with Opal Investment 🎚️
In a surprising move, OpenAI is leading a $60 million Series B funding round for Opal, a company known for its $300 professional-grade webcams.
According to The Information, this investment marks OpenAI's deepening interest in consumer hardware, despite its primary focus on language models. Notable backers like YouTuber Casey Neistat and TikTok stars Charli and Dixie D’Amelio add star power to Opal’s roster.
What’s the play here?
Not sure. We’re guessing this is separate from earlier reports of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and famed Apple designer Jony Ive working on a hardware device together.
We’re guessing there’s a data play or some future computer vision collab in play here.
Bing Deep Search PLUS Copilot sidebar
Bing Deep Search and Microsoft Copilot are two great AI features.
But did you know there’s a way to use both at the same time?
We’re showing you the benefit of Bing Deep Search PLUS Copilot’s sidebar in Bing.
Check out today's AI in 5.
🦾How You Can Leverage:
AI’s the big bad wolf, right?
Well, it can be.
Especially if you don’t understand how it works.
But as we learned in today’s show, fearing AI won’t do anything except hold your company back.
In a world where AI headlines oscillate between utopian promises and dystopian warnings, Lauren Ingram, founder of Next Big Thing, helped us cut through the noise with refreshing clarity.
(/Imagine smart Everyday AI listener karate chopping through the nonsense.)
Lauren’s insights reveal a path forward for businesses grappling with AI adoption – one that doesn't ignore legitimate concerns but instead channels them into strategic action.
Ready to give your team an AI glow-up?
Lets shine, shorties.
1 – Fearfulness is OK. Inaction isn’t 🧑🎨️
Gotta call out the elephant in the room — AI’s gonna take a lot of jobs.
Like, Dell just cut 12,500 jobs due to AI.
But here’s the thing y’all — the more you know the threat, the less of a threat it becomes.
Fear should actually drive adoption, not prevent it.
Laurent said that many people, especially those outside the tech industry, feel ambivalent or apathetic about AI because they don't understand its practical applications.
By showing real-world examples of AI in action, you can bridge the gap between abstract concepts and tangible benefits.
Try this:
Lauren talked about the importance of AI literacy and dedicated, daily practice.
Start by setting aside just 5 minutes a day to practice your AI skills. Whether that’s improving ChatGPT outputs, better integrating Microsoft Copilot into your daily workflow, or using a GPT as your research assistant.
You’ve gotta do the dang thing. Every. Single. Day.
Lauren shouted out our free PPP course as a great way to better understand AI and put it to use.
Reply to this email with ‘PPP” and we’ll send ya the registration link.
2 – Don’t get stuck by AI overwhelm 🎯
Another day, another model.
Another week, another one.
Next week?
(*DJ Khaled voice*)
ANOTHA one!
Lauren talked about focusing more on actually using GenAI as part of your routine vs. trying to keep up on the bleeding edge of the tech.
She said that most people don't need to understand the intricacies of how AI works to benefit from it.
Less jargon. More real-world experience.
That’s a slogan we can get behind!
(But have you ever RAGged an LLM during an NLP task so intensely that it went from GPT-4 to BERT mode, started LOLing in binary, and tried to convince the API it had achieved AGI? LOLz)
Try this:
So how can you blaze an AI path forward to adoption when the rhetorical Generative AI roads are constantly being re-paved, demolished and rebuilt?
(And throw in the fact that the cars are also changing and OMG we might have AI time travel so should we wait for that and wait is that ANOTHER new model frick should we use that one instead of the otha one?!)
Try developing an "AI Literacy Ladder" for your organization with three tiers:
Foundational Level: Cover basic AI concepts and industry-relevant use cases.
Intermediate Level: Focus on specific applications and best practices.
Advanced Level: Dive into machine learning algorithms for those who need it.
Create short, engaging modules with hands-on exercises linked to daily tasks. Allow employees to learn at their own pace and reward progress with digital badges or certificates.
This ensures everyone can build AI knowledge comfortably without being overwhelmed.
Our take?
Short, measurable sprints that chop down the low-hanging fruit.
If you’re still looking for extra oomph to guide you forward, this episode’s got the goods.
3 – AI automation can be a good thing 🧍
Tired: AI can automate my job? Oh no.
Wired: AI can automate my job! Oh yeahhhhhhhhhhh (*Kool Aid man voice*)
This is where Lauren kinda flipped the script.
Because if parts of your job can be automated by AI, that’s actually a good thing.
Lauren suggests looking at automation as an opportunity to level up.
If AI can handle the boring, repetitive parts of your job, you've just been handed a golden ticket to focus on more interesting, creative, or strategic work.
She even painted a picture of how this might look in education.
Imagine a teacher saying, "Use AI to generate the perfect answer for your homework. Then, let's discuss how you'd make it better."
It's not about replacing human creativity – it's about augmenting it.
Try this:
Conduct an "AI Automation Audit" in your department.
Have each team member identify one repetitive task they do regularly. Spend a week exploring how AI could automate or assist with this task. At the end of the week, have a show-and-tell session where everyone presents their findings.
Discuss not just how to automate the task, but how team members could use the freed-up time for more strategic work.
This article’s a great read as well to get you started, going over 9 ways to combine AI and automation or everyday work projects.
