Let's find out if this is a tool you should be using!

🤷‍♂️ What’s Going On and Why It Matters:

Using AI is kinda like using the Internet, right?

Nope.

The impact of Generative AI is something we hear about all the time. But most people are missing the mark when it comes to the impact of AI.

‘It’ll be just like the Internet’ they say.

‘AI’s impact? Kinda like what Netflix did to Blockbuster’ people predict.

Wrong and wrong.

It seems so many people are missing the mark on how impactful Generative AI will be, so we dedicated an entire episode to drawing a line in the sand between the Internet and Artificial Intelligence.

If you’ve got a hot take, go sound off in the LinkedIn discussion. We’d love to hear it.

But here’s our hot takes on the impact of AI, summarized.

  • The internet changed how we shared intelligence. AI changes what intelligence is.

  • We all had a decade-plus to adjust to the internet. We won’t get that long with GenAI.

  • AI will likely lead to a financial crash in the US. (And that’s according to SEC Chair Gary Gensler, not us).

  • People trying to compare the internet and Artificial Intelligence don’t really understand AI.

  • Early expert predictions show that AI will be at least twice as impactful to our economy, in about a third of the time.

Welp. That’s a lot.

What’s it all mean, though? And what can we even do about it?

Let’s take a deeper dive 🤿

🦾 How You Can Leverage:

Nothing like an AI rant to get your week started, right?

Full agree.

To be honest, we’ve been kinda fed up lately with the general misunderstanding of the impact of GenAI.

Thought leaders comparing GenAI to the internet — wrong.

Companies writing off GenAI — inviting failure.

People not learning GenAI because it doesn’t apply to them — flirting with your job security.

So, we had to try and set the record straight when it comes to the internet and AI and comparing the impact of each.

1 – Listen to smart people 📚

The Internet is brimming with stupid.

And with random people selling you hot garbage products and services on all things AI, it can be tough to separate fact from fiction when it comes to truly understanding the impact of AI.

And then throw in the most inaccurate blanket statement on AI ever — AI won’t take your job, someone using AI will. Yuckgrossbarf. Here’s the reality — the smartest tech minds in the world understand AI better than the rest of us, and they say using AI is definitely not like using the internet.

Try this:

Yeah, we’ve got 100+ episodes from people smarter than ourselves talking about AI. But, here’s some third party sources you’ve gotta listen to if you want to really understand the direction AI is headed. The Godfather of AI, Geoffrey Hinton, talks about AI advancement. Google CEO Sundar Pichai talks about why AI will mean more than fire and electricity, and Bill Gates talks about handling the risks of AI.

2 – Reframe AI in your mind 🧠

Real talk — so much of AI is having the right mindset.

Don’t believe us? Earlier this year, just about everyone was ready to write off AI. “Insiders” and “industry experts” tried to liken GenAI to other much-hyped tech innovations, like the NFTs, crypto or the Metaverse. (Read this lol).

They called AI just another internet technology, and said it would die off in the hype cycle.

Fast-forward to today, and AI is expected to grow future economies faster than anything we’ve seen before. (Yeah, they were absolutely wrong.)

Try this:

A common misconception is writing off AI’s impact because we don’t understand it. Or we’re scared of it. Instead of being like those “Insiders” and “Industry experts” who had dead-wrong takes on AI earlier this year, try to learn specifically about how AI is impacting your line of work. Again, AI isn’t like the internet. It’s changing how intelligence is created. And just about any biz under the sun will eventually be impacted.

Don’t ask “If” AI will impact your line of work, but ask “How”.

Then, start building your or your company’s future plans around how AI is impacting your sector. (Here’s a great overview on AI’s current influence across many sectors.)

3 – Leverage Gen AI the right way 🚀

Learning ain’t enough shorties.

Simple as that. If you’re reading this newsletter, or listening to our podcast, you probably at least have an interest in learning AI. Which is a great start.

And that means you probably know how much more impactful AI will be than the Internet.

But if you want to be prepared for the incoming GenAI waves (and we’re JUST getting started!) It’s important to not just learn AI, but start leveraging it in your day-to-day.

Try this: Don’t skip to #3 on this one. That’s dangerous. Take some time to dig into the resources from #1 and #2 above. Then, it’s important to prioritize your time and efforts in how you actually use GenAI. Don’t just jump straight to the next shiny tool and find out how it could benefit your company, career or department. Instead, take findings away from #1 and #2 above, and find the right way to implement GenAI.
