1. Microsoft Tests Auto-Opening AI Copilot on Windows 11 🖥️

Microsoft is testing a new change to Windows 11 that would automatically open its AI-powered Copilot feature on widescreen devices. This move is part of Microsoft's efforts to push its AI technology further, following the recent introduction of a Copilot key on Windows PCs and laptops.

While the exact definition of "widescreen" is unclear, it seems to target ultrawide monitors and non-traditional desktop resolutions. However, this change may draw criticism from users who prefer more control over their Windows experience.

2. OpenAI's ChatGPT reports 260 Enterprise Customers 💼

In just four months after launching its corporate version, OpenAI has attracted hundreds of companies eager to leverage the power of ChatGPT. With 260 enterprise customers on board and a combined user base of over 150,000 employees, OpenAI's COO, Brad Lightcap, confirmed the impressive adoption.

This surge in demand indicates the startup's successful endeavor to monetize its renowned AI product. The increased usage of ChatGPT among businesses showcases the growing importance of AI in shaping the future of work and highlights the potential for individuals and organizations to enhance productivity and efficiency through AI-powered solutions.

3. Microsoft links with Typeface for Smarter Marketing Campaigns 💡

Microsoft is teaming up with generative AI startup Typeface to simplify the process of building marketing campaigns. Typeface's customizable AI technology will be integrated into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Insights platform, allowing organizations to create content aligned with their branding and style.

The partnership expands on existing collaborations between the two companies, with Typeface already working with Salesforce and Google Cloud. This integration empowers marketers to express their goals in plain English, enabling the AI system to generate entire campaigns, including various content assets.

4. Fake AI Taylor Swift Selling Cookware Removed 👩‍🍳

AI clone doing unauthorized things on your behalf? Shake it off. A recent ad featuring an AI-generated Taylor Swift offering a giveaway of high-end cookware has sparked controversy. The unauthorized ad for Le Creuset appeared on social media, featuring a likeness of Swift and a fake version of her voice.

Both Le Creuset and Swift have confirmed that they were not involved in the ad. This incident highlights the growing concern around the use of AI to create ads without proper consent from celebrities, raising questions about the need for legal protections and regulations. As AI technology continues to advance, the issue of unauthorized use of celebrity likeness and voice in advertising campaigns may become more prevalent, necessitating clearer guidelines and potential legal remedies.

5. 1x Robotics Raises $100 Million for AI-Powered Robots 💰

Norwegian startup 1x Robotics has secured an impressive $100 million in a Series B funding round, led by EQT Ventures and featuring prominent investors like Samsung NEXT. The company, which has been developing robots for the consumer market for a decade, plans to utilize the funds to support its enterprise customers, launch its bipedal android called Neo, and enhance its data collection and training strategy for embodied AI.

Neo, designed to assist with household tasks, represents a new wave of androids hitting the market. This investment highlights the growing interest in AI-powered robotics and its potential impact on various industries.

Turn a single URL into a fully edited video, with visuals, captions and voiceover?! 🤔

Here’s the not so secret secret.

Video is the most compelling form of storytelling.

But it takes pretty decent skills and practice to be good at it. And a TON of time.

That’s why we took a look at Fliz, a new AI video tool that promises to turn a simple URL (like a blog post) into a fully produced video. Visuals, editing, captions, voiceover…. all of it.

The results?

Meh. Some bad. But, some really good.

And we think certain people could take advantage of this in a big way. Go check it out.

🦾How You Can Leverage:

For most of us, we have to seek out using AI.

  • Logging onto a website.

  • Launching a program.

  • Talking to a voice assistant.

In short, to use Generative AI right now, we all have to use the cloud.

We tap into a company, like ChatGPT or Google’s Bard or Midjourney or Dialpad AI and use their tech. Happening in the cloud, with massive amounts of compute and processing behind the scenes.

But things are changing y’all.

Like we talked about on today’s show, the near-future of AI is having large language models living on our actual devices.

(And in this case, we’re just talking our phones and laptops. We’ll have to tackle wearables in an upcoming show!)

We’ve seen recent announcements from companies like Meta, Microsoft, Google, NVIDIA, Qualcomm and others bringing the best of Generative AI off the cloud and onto the actual phones and laptops we use daily.

Here’s what it means, why it matters, and the things people aren’t talking about.

Lez get it. 👇

1 – Faster, more personal AI 🏎️️

The biggest impact of moving our AI usage from the cloud to our devices, that literally follow us everywhere and know everything?

Faster, more personal AI.

Or, like what Tara said on today’s live show.

Y’all might not realize it now, but there’s a TON of improvements to be made by bringing LLM capabilities to our devices. Sure, there’s a lot to figure out in terms of privacy, security, morality, etc. (That’s an episode or two for another day.)

But, the immediate impacts of on-device AI are immense. Imagine being on your phone, and it knows everything about you, what you’ve been using your phone for, and helping predict the tasks to be done next based on your usage. (And then actually helping you do them.)

Or, think the same thing for your computer. That’s next level, cultural shift type of improvements.

Try this: Wanna take a peek in the future? Go check out this LinkedIn article about the race to on-device LLMs.

2 – Will it lead to an uprising? 🦾

All Skynet and Terminator jokes aside, should we be concerned about on-device AI?

Don’t get us wrong. We’d be STOKED if/when Apple finally released a large language model inside of its next iPhone. The upsides to on-device AI are legit exciting and undeniable. But, there’s an unspoken downside.

Right now, we have the choice to use AI or not. We log into ChatGPT. We fire up discord to launch Pika Labs or open up Runway’s website. But, there’s always something reassuring that if an AI model ever went sideways, you can just log off. Or, unplug it. Or blow on it like a Nintendo cartridge.

But what happens when/if a Superintelligent LLM eventually lives on the hardware of our devices?

Try this: Are you big into the marriage of AI and hardware? Or, just really into cybersecurity? (Oh, we had an episode for that, too.) If so, here’s an insightful article on potential risks and vulnerabilities of AI-infused hardware.

3 – Could on-device AI help the earth? 🌏

Something we don’t talk about enough?

Generative AI’s impact on the environment.

As sweet as Generative AI is, it can actually take a toll on the environment. That’s why one of the topics we contemplated today on the show — could on-device AI actually help the environment in the long-run? If a handful of prompts costs 500 ml of water EACH AND EVERY TIME, could the transition to on-device LLMs ease that burden?

We think so.

Try this: Read a bit more about AI advancements in hardware, and how that can help the environment. Also, give our previous podcast a re-listen as we chatted with an NVIDIA leader in global energy, who shared how they’re actually using AI to make AI more energy efficient. (Super meta, right?)

Numbers to watch

$100 Million

Amount of money that 1X Robotics raised in its ongoing effort to bring AI powered robots to the consumer market, including its bipedal droid named Neo, who helps with household tasks.
