What can be done about students cheating with AI? Should we just encourage it? 🤔

Should AI be used in every classroom?

Or should it be banned?

It seems like there’s a ton of gray area in AI and education, so we decided to dive in deep with Kelsey Behringer, the CEO of Packback, An AI-powered resource for students and educators.

So, where did we land?

You’ll have to listen for all the details.

Big Tech – Google Deepmind CEO says the future of Large Language Models is them talking to experts.

Ethics in AI- AI detectors are biased against non-native speakers, according to a recent study. (We say they don’t work regardless)

Social Media News – ChatGPT is no longer the fastest growing app, thanks to Meta’s Twitter competitor, Threads, going to the mooooon.

Trends in AI – Google seemingly can’t get its story straight on if it has a moat against AI or not.

1. Pentagon's AI Deepfake Detector: The Ultimate Spy Tool? 🕵️

The Pentagon is turning to AI to detect deepfakes, potentially revolutionizing security measures. Could this mean a safer digital world or just more paranoia at the office? Is your boss a deepfake? Check out the full article to find out.

2. AI Robots Promise Not to Kill Humans... Yet 🤖

'AI for Good' conference in Geneva

In a bizarre UN press stunt at the ‘AI for Good’ conference in Geneva, AI robots promised they won't kill humans. Or steal our jobs. But can we trust them? Are we safe from our toaster? Also, why was this robot giving serious side-eye when answering?

3. Nvidia's AI Chip Market Share: The New Tech Giant? 🖥️

The US-based chipmaker aint playing around, as Citi says Nvidia should soon have a 90%+ market share in AI chips. (Monopoly much?) Nvidia is making big moves in the AI chip market, with new estimates showing staggering growth. Will AMD challenge Nvidia, or will it become the next Apple?

4. Can humans detect AI writing if AI can’t? 🤷

We talked about it on the podcast today — AI detectors that say they can detect AI can’t really. But can humans? Check out this in-depth piece by CNN that looks at how humans can detect fake articles, and how GPT can write about things that don’t exist.

5. Does ChatGPT finally have a worthy opponent? 🤼

Many people — including our crew — have been underwhelmed by Google Bard. But hot off the press: Anthropic releases Claude 2. Even though availability around Claude has been a bit scarce, the performance has been impressive. Does ChatGPT have an actual competitor? We think so.

A 5-minute trick to getting the most out of ChatGPT’s Code Interpreter ⚡️

🤷‍♂️ What’s Going On and Why It Matters:

Let’s be real: Students are using ChatGPT to write their papers.

(If lil Tommy is telling you different Mom, Tommy is a LIAR!)

And that’s making life as a teacher or professor tricky.

As the CEO of Packback, Kelsey sees both sides. Packback offers an AI assistant to students, and an AI-backed grading assistant for teachers.

So, Kelsey sees both sides.

Her take?

Let’s explore that AI-student relationship 👇

🦾How You Can Leverage:

How can we possibly police this?

Alright, even if you aren’t a teacher or student, there’s some fantastic takeaways for everyone here.

Maybe you’re a parent looking to walk this new AI-in-education path, or have a relative in school now. And, we’re all students of life, right?

You’ve gotta know the ins and the outs to get the most out of education or you’ll be as clueless as a chameleon in a bag of Skittles. 🦎

1 – Set a (non AI) baseline 📈

HUGE golden nugget that Kelsey dropped here, which makes it number one on the list. Set a baseline for before and after writing.

Try this: Go old school and get a “before” written sample of your/your students/your employees? writing. That way, you can tell if the “after” sample sounds like it’s coming from the same person, or a super intelligent supercomputer.

2 – Don’t go the cheap route 💸

Alright, we didn’t get TOO deep into this on today’s podcast. But, this is a Student 101 survival tip. If you’re using the free version of ChatGPT, you’re missing out. (And your GPT-powered papers are probably full of hallucinations) Whether you’re a student, educator, or just trying to get that competitive analysis out to Janet by EOD. (Chill Janet! It’s coming!)

Try this: Don’t use the free version of ChatGPT. Rookie mistake. We’re actually giving away 6 months of free ChatGPT plus, AND 1-on-1 training. It takes 8 seconds to sign up.

3 – Level up your learning 🎚️

Are papers going to be a thing of the past?

Not just for college students trying to ace Econ, but for many walks of life? Think: maybe your next RFP will be a Zoom call instead of the usual 10-page proposal. Maybe resumes and cover letters will make way for video pitches. And college papers could be a 5-minute meeting with the professor.

Try this: Whatever your walk of life, push your learning and work to the next level. Our hot take is that he written word may start to lose some of its punch in the future, and real-life interactions are gonna take center stage. (But don’t worry, there’s an AI for that)

Now This …

Sheeeeesh. Did that convo blow your mind, or was that just us? AI in education is so dang tricky, we feel for educators and students.
