Canva's Magic AI features - What they are and how to use them 🪄

Canva is expected to release a slew of new AI features tomorrow at its Magic event.

So we decided to dive into Canva's current Magic AI features and see how effective and reliable they are.

Is Canva's AI better than Adobe or Dall-E? Let's find out!

🤷‍♂️ What’s Going On and Why It Matters:

Is it time to give Canva some AI love?

We think so.

As much as we talk about fan favorites like ChatGPT, Midjourney and others, we thought it was about time to give Canva some AI shine.

And with some major AI announcements expected from Canva tomorrow, now is a great time to re-learn all of the AI canva has to offer.

To be honest, we had major tech issues today on our livestream. Bummer. Buuuut, we dropped a special AI in 5 to give you the highest level recap, so make sure to check that out as well.

(Obvi this was made with Canva)

But if you missed our connection-riddled livestream, here’s the high level recap.

- Canva is a design juggernaut and has gone from a relatively unknown tool to the preferred option in a decade

- Canva is an online program with thousands of easy to edit templates and a very generous free plan

- Photoshop is definitely taking note of Canva’s rise to dominance and recently released a web version of its popular desktop editor, with AI features galore.

- Canva is expected to launch some slick new AI features at its ‘Magic is Coming’ event tomorrow, October 4th.

Whew.

All caught up now? Great, let’s break today’s show down and talk about how we can leverage Canva and its AI tools! 👇

🦾How You Can Leverage:

If you didn’t know any better, you might miss many of Canva’s most useful AI features.

Maybe they started to deprioritize them as they worked to improve the features behind the scenes?

Regardless, with some major AI updates about to ship, it’s time to go in and get caught up on all the AI Canva Magic.

So after you jam out and catch the (glitchy) replay of the livestream, let’s break down our 3 favorite use-cases for Canva and its Magic AI abilities. 🪄

1 – One Click Presentations 📽️

Like we went over in today’s show, Canva’s most useful AI feature (in our opinion) is pretty hidden. Did you know that Canva can create an ENTIRE PRESENTATION with only a few words of input? Yeah, it can. You just gotta know where to look.

Try this:
Although the ‘Magic Design’ option used to be front and center with a huuuuuge button, it’s now strangely hidden. And you also used to be able to access it from the Canva Assistant.

Both are gone now, but you can still use the Magic Design option by simply typing a short description in the search bar. We know, doesn’t make sense to us, either.

Any time you’re editing a presentation, locate that bar in the upper left hand corner to use the AI presentation feature.

2 – Magic Eraser and Edit ✏️

Real talk: to erase and replace images used to take lightyears.

Back in the early days of Photoshop, it might take a novice hours to erase an image and recreate what would be the background, or to swap out elements in an image. With the Magic Edit and Magic Eraser options, it can be done in Canva in seconds.

Try this:
Reimagine what you can accomplish with your visuals.

Sure, Canva has the AI image feature. But, to be honest, that leaves a lot to be desired. So instead, tap into Canva’s expansive stock library, and use the Magic Edit and Magic Erase options to tweak those photos to your heart’s content.

3 – Magic Grab = Hidden Gem 💎

Take it from a team that routinely spends thousands of hours designing each year. (That’s us). Some AI features are just marketing bells and whistles, and some are legit time-savers. So, we saved the best for last.

Sure, the ability to create an entire presentation with one-click is awesome. But, Magic Grab is the real power play here. The ability to instantly separate the background and the foreground, to move and resize an object AND to instantly magically fill in the missing artifacts all in one swoop is a legit AI wizardry win.

Try this:
Got some great images and want to bring life to them? Use Magic Grab to move your foreground subject around in the photo, whether it’s a person modeling or a product shot that needs a new perspective. Combine Magic Grab with Magic Edit, and you have limitless possibilities.

Now This …
