Starting May 15th features like Magic Editor, previously limited to Pixel owners and Google One subscribers, will be available to everyone with a compatible device. Today, we took a deeper than normal dive and looked at the Free vs. Paid ChatGPT from just about every angle.

Here’s the reality — ChatGPT Plus is in a league of its own.

Yes, new models from Google Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus are impressive. And looking at benchmarks and even the Chatbot Arena Leaderboard, you’d think that GPT-4 is getting old and stale.

Here’s the thing no one is talking about, y’all.

ChatGPT is much more than a large language model.

It’s what we call a Business Operating System. (Should we like Trademark that or something?)

To be honest, it’s ChatGPT’s advanced functions and ability to connect with third-party services that place it in its own category.

Everyone else is fighting for second place.

But that FREE version of ChatGPT, GPT 3.5?

Hard pass.

So, let’s dive in and go over the differences between the free and the paid versions so you can squeeze the most juice outta this large lemon model.

1 – (Literally) Built different 🧑‍🎨️

Common mistake — people think GPT 3.5 and GPT-4 Turbo are the same, minus some bells and whistles.

Nope.

Couldn’t be further from the truth.

You could just look at the size — GPT-3.5 is reportedly 175 billion parameters while GPT-4 Turbo is reportedly 10X the size at 1.8 trillion parameters.

They’re trained on different data. GPT-4 Turbo was just updated this week, whereas GPT-3.5 apparently hasn’t been touched much in 6 months.

You can’t do an apple-to-apples comparison between the free version of ChatGPT and ChatGPT Plus.

It’s like a landline vs. a smartphone.

A bike vs. a sonic jet.

Abacus vs. Quantum Computer

Carrier Pigeon vs. Drone Delivery

2 – Not all GPT-4s are created equal 🎯

“Jordan, you’re not very smart. You don’t need to pay $20 a month for ChatGPT! You can get it for free elsewhere you big fat head. That’s why I don’t pay for ChatGPT Plus duuuuhhhhhh.”

(Ok, that was rude. I’m very sensitive about my big fat head.)

Real talk, let’s break this down.

Yes, you can use the GPT-4 Turbo model for free all over the internet.

Perplexity.

You.com

Microsoft Copilot.

But, you only get a taste of GPT-4 in those places, not the whole kit and caboodle.

Advanced Data Analysis and Code Interpreter? Only in ChatGPT Plus.

Millions of custom GPTs? Only in ChatGPT Plus.

Combining the above with real-ish time data via Browse with Bing? Only in ChatGPT Plus.

3 – ChatGPT Plus = league of its own 🥇

Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus is benchmarking well.

And Google’s mind-boggling 1 million token memory is worth drooling over.

But guess what?

Claude 3 doesn’t connect to the internet, which makes it kinda useless for most business use-cases.

And Gemini still can’t even connect to your Workspace data and struggles to talk to …. Google. Oy vey.

As much promise as other Large Language Models may have, they’re just (somewhat) limited models right now.

ChatGPT Plus? That’s where business gets done.
