🤷‍♂️ What’s Going On and Why It Matters:

Recently, what’s going on in the GenAI world has felt like a storm.

A tsunami even. (Looking at you, OpenAI board.)

So, we set out today to chart the uncharted AI waters with an AI leader who helped us all make sense of the AI space.

Usha Jagannathan is an Ex-McKinsey Engineer and a leader in the Responsible AI field.

Usha helped us navigate the current landscape of growing your career and company in the ever-changing AI environment.

What did we dive into?

A ton.

Usha shared practical examples from her time developing AI applications at McKinsey to how she advises startups and teaches AI in the classroom.

Here’s a breakdown:

How to emphasize fairness, transparency, and accountability in AI

  • Challenges faced by smaller companies in using AI

  • Discussion on diversity and representation in AI leadership

  • Importance of explainability using AI models in real-life situations

  • Importance of reskilling revolution in AI-related fields

  • Accessibility of AI learning and low-code/no-code solutions

Ready to tame the tsunami with us?

Let’s dive in. (Water’s actually fine. We checked)

🦾How You Can Leverage:

How can you grow your career or company?

And what does AI have to do with it?

Glad you (rhetorically) asked.

Usha Jagannathan helped answer those questions and more. (It’s not too late if you wanted to join in on the conversation.

Here’s the roadmap on how you can find steady footing in the wild world of Generative AI, and some simple strategies for growing your company and career.

1 – Don’t be scared of AI 👻

Artificial Intelligence ain’t as hard as it used to be.

Like Usha and Jordan talked about, you don’t have to have a PhD in computer science or be a deep learning expert to leverage AI.

Usha mentioned no-code and low-code tools that make it easy to build solutions for your company.

Try this: With these user-friendly tools, you can swiftly integrate AI into your projects and offerings. Fresh off a November 2023 update, go check out this spot-on guide from Akkio on 52 no-code AI tools. (Try one per week, maybe?)

2 – Upskilling is required 🤹

Usha mentioned the importance of upskilling and reskilling.

What’s that?

In short, it’s continually learning new applicable skills, and sharpening older skills that are changing in nature.

Why is AI upskilling more important than ever?

The main reason why we need to reskill more often now versus in previous tech eras is because the world is changing faster than ever due to Generative AI, and the skills that are valuable today may become obsolete tomorrow.

Try this: Usha pointed to this study from the Harvard Business Review about how an employee’s ability to retain applicable skills is quickly changing. The article shows that the half-life value of a skill a generation ago was 26 years. Today? It’s less than 5 years.

That’s why reskilling and upskilling is so important for workers and organizations to stay relevant and competitive in the rapidly changing world with GenAI leading the charge.

3 – Bottom up > Top down 🔝

Started from the bottom, now we… here?

When it comes to AI, don't wait for your company's top management to figure it all out.

You’ll likely get tired of waiting for the innovation train, or get passed up by competitors in the meantime.

Usha and Jordan talked how a bottom-up approach can be clutch in driving AI adoption within your organization. If your company lacks robust AI policies or strategies, be the advocate who suggests and promotes them.

By championing AI solutions, you can help your company recognize the immense value and potential it holds.

Try this: Does the bottom-up approach sound a bit daunting or dicey? We get it. It might not be easy to be the AI innovator at your org. Here’s a detailed guide on best results for leveraging AI from the bottom-up.

Now This …

What are you doing this Thanksgiving holiday?

We wouldn’t be here without you! ❤️
