Is this mystery model GPT-5?

Is this new mystery model really the next version of ChatGPT?

Well…probably not?

We’re giving you a few secrets and insights about the new gpt2-chatbot that no one is talking about.

Or see this related video:

🦾How You Can Leverage:

Is ChatGPT’s GPT-5 out in the wild?

Is this mysterious model that’s set the internet ablaze actually the next version of ChatGPT?

If so, how will it change the way we work? If not — then what the heck is it?

On today’s show, we tackled the mysterious new gpt2-chatbot model that was either leaked or released on HuggingFace’s LMSYS Chatbot Arena

There’s still a lot of uncertainty about what this model actually is. It’s powerfully capable and extremely mysterious.

And if you’re totally confused and lost, don’t worry. We’re gonna keep it simple and break it down.

Ready to karate chop the rumors and do a lil investigating?

Hi-yaaaah 🥋

1 – Why a new GPT model matters 👀

Does it seem like there’s new large language models and small language models coming out just about every day now?

Yeah. It does feel that way. 🤷

Just in the past month-ish, we’ve seen LLM updates from Google Gemini, Anthropic releasing Claude 3, and Meta and Microsoft making waves with small and medium models.

So what’s with the obsession over the next version of OpenAI’s model?

Well, because OpenAI’s ChatGPT really started this Generative AI phase that’s completely changed the way the business world works.

Even NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang said that ChatGPT was the big splash that started the GenAI wave.

And right now, OpenAI’s GPT-4 model is STILL the most competent and powerful model, even though it’s based on a foundation model that’s more than a year old.

Try this:

Before we dive into the rumors and what may be new, you’ve gotta fully know what a multimodal machine that ChatGPT currently is.

Now that you see how powerful GPT-4 is (even compared to the trillion-parameter models that are much newer!) you probably understand the value of what’s next from ChatGPT.

Spoiler alert — we think it’ll be even more impactful than ChatGPT was to our society. And that’s saying something.

Like… aside from Google, when was the last time any other product became a verb?

‘ChatGPT it’ or ‘Chat it’ is now pretty commonplace.

2 – gpt2-chatbot: what’s real and what’s fake? 🔍

No one knows.

But, we went super deep into the myths and realities on today’s show, so make sure to give it a watch/listen if you want all the juicy deets.

Try this:

So, let’s go karate choppy bullet points on facts and fiction around this new gpt2-chatbot model:

Karate chop time.

  • ↳ gpt2-chatbot is made by OpenAI = Likely true, but no guarantee. OpenAI does not have the trademark to ‘GPT,’ but from our thousands of hours of experience of using GPT models since 2020, this seems to be an OpenAI product.

Our result from prompting gpt2-chatbot to identify itself:

(Anytime you ask an LLM this, you are going to get varied results of truthfulness vs. hallucinations, FYI. But we got consistent results of gpt2-chatbot saying it was derived off GPT-4)

  • ↳ gpt2-chatbot is GPT-5 = probably false.

  • ↳ gpt2-chatbot is GPT-4.5 = probably false.

  • ↳ gpt2-chatbot is really, really powerful = very true. Both in our limited internal testing and smart peeps on the interwebs:

  • ↳ gpt2-chatbot is a fine-tuned version of GPT-2 from 2019 = Probably not.

  • ↳ gpt2-chatbot is up-to-date = True. We were able to get a little info from a system prompt, which showed that gpt2-chatbot has a knowledge cutoff of November 2023. (Again, take any LLM response about itself or its training data with a grain of salt.)

3 – Prediction: What is gpt2-chatbot? 🤔

Stil confused?

Us, too.

Here’s the reality — right now, we don’t know much about gpt2-chatbot.

What little we know is that it is very powerful, full of mystery, and likely from OpenAI.

Buuuuuuuut, since it’s #HotTakeTuesday and all, we’re gonna put our prediction cap on.

(Inserts funny looking hat, ala Steve Urkel.)

Try this:

Bookmark this in case we’re right. (Or wrong so you can make fun of us.)

But based on what we know, here’s what we feel confident-ish on:

  • gpt2-chatbot is not GPT-4.5 or GPT-5

  • gpt2-chatbot is likely either: a) the future free/lite version of ChatGPT, once GPT-4.5 or GPT-5 comes out, or b) an Edge AI/on-device small model that OpenAI may use for partnerships with companies like Apple or other hardware makers.

And we gave you a lil secret on how to get around some of the limits so you can really dig deep if you want.

Oh, and make sure to go give gpt2-chatbot a try on the HuggingFace Chatbot Arena
