1. Amazon Unveils Titan AI Image Generator 🖼️

TAmazon has stepped into the AI image generation arena with its Titan Image Generator, revealed at the AWS re:Invent 2023 conference. This new tool, available for AWS customers, can create or modify images based on text descriptions, offering a blend of creativity and practicality. Trained on diverse datasets, Titan Image Generator aims to balance innovation with safeguards against toxicity and bias.

2. DeepMind's AI Revolutionizes Material Discovery 🌟

Google's DeepMind has introduced a groundbreaking AI tool, GNoME, transforming the way new materials are discovered. This deep learning tool has already predicted structures for over 2.2 million new materials, with more than 700 created in labs for testing. GNoME's approach combines two deep-learning models to generate a vast array of material structures, significantly speeding up the discovery process.

3. ChatGPT’s One Year Anniversary 🎉

A year ago, OpenAI quietly launched ChatGPT, an app that has since become the fastest-growing consumer technology in history. It's a simple chat interface, yet it's reshaped the tech industry, attracting $17.9 billion in venture capital in just the third quarter of this year. Big tech giants like Microsoft, Google, Amazon, and Meta have all integrated AI into their core services, with AI becoming a central focus of their future strategies.

4. Microsoft's Major AI Investment in the UK 🇬🇧

Microsoft is set to significantly boost its presence in the UK with a massive $3.2 billion investment over the next three years. This move, marking the company's largest investment in Britain to date, aims to propel the growth of artificial intelligence (AI) in the region. The investment will more than double Microsoft's datacentre footprint in the UK, a crucial step for advancing AI model development.

5. AI in Healthcare: A Call for Regulation and Transparency 🏥

Healthcare leaders are urging US Congress to implement regulations on the use of AI in the health industry. This call comes amidst concerns about implicit bias and patient privacy in AI programming. Witnesses at a recent hearing highlighted the risk of AI inheriting human biases and the need for training AI systems with "gold-standard data sets" to avoid perpetuating racial biases. Additionally, there's a push for transparency, ensuring patients are aware when AI is used in their treatment.

Voila AI – Your new GPT assistant or AI agent friend? 🤔

We found an AI/GPT powered tool that may just become your new assistant.

We're looking at Voila AI, a Chrome extension that helps with multiple tasks.

Is it worth your time? Does it stink? Is it magical? Let's find out!

🤷‍♂️ What’s Going On and Why It Matters:

You might not be a biologist or scientist helping create drugs.

Yet, today’s show is definitely still for you.

Want cheaper prescriptions? Want better healthcare?

(Yes and yes. Please!)

Chris Gibson joined the Everyday AI show today to talk about how AI is helping to make that happen. Chris is the CEO and Co-Founder of Recursion, a biotech research company that uses tech innovations to improve the drug discovery process.

Here’s the problem.

Right now, about 90% of drugs fail during the clinical trial phase. Yikes.

So can the failure rate improve so we can get safer and cheaper medicine? Probably so. And it’s all thanks to Artificial Intelligence.

Why?

As Chris explained, deep learning and even Generative AI are completely changing the Pharma scene. Processes that took 10-15 years may soon only take 2-5 years.

Make sure to listen to the whole conversation, but here’s the abridged version:

  • Challenges in Drug Development and the Role of AI

  • Explanation of the high failure rates in drug development

  • How AI can analyze large datasets to understand gene, protein, and molecule interactions

  • Potential impact of reducing drug failure rates on drug prices and disease treatment possibilities

  • Impact of AI tools on data processing and the potential for faster drug approval processes

  • Aspirations for the industry to advance towards preventing diseases in the long term

See?

The work Chris, Recursion and others in the industry are actually impacting us all.

Let’s give it the ol’ 1-2-3 breakdown and talk how this may impact us all. 👇

🦾How You Can Leverage:

GenAI can do a bulk of the role for professionals in the communications space.

You can view that as a threat, or as an opportunity.

With Megan Thomas joining the show, we explored the latter. She laid out not only how we can leverage AI for daily communications tasks, but how it can actually make you more irreplaceable in your role.

Let’s get it.

1 – Data is everything 📊

Data is everything in the world of pharmaceuticals, and Recursion knows it.

Chris revealed that Recursion has been dedicated to building a monumental dataset through millions of experiments conducted each week using real human cells. This unprecedented 25 petabytes of data is like having the entire Netflix library at your disposal, only it's not for binge-watching; it's for fundamentally transforming the way we approach drug discovery.

And with Generative AI and large language models in the fold over the last few years, it’s changed how companies from top to bottom can use the data in a fraction of the time.

Try this:

See that? 👆

That’s how Recursion is changing how drugs are made.

With such an extensive and meticulously curated dataset, powered by AI, the potential for groundbreaking discoveries is beyond our wildest imaginations. Go check out Recursion’s approach, and how that may impact the future of medicine for us all.

2 – AI = better and safer drugs ⛑️

A 90% failure rate for drugs in the clinical trial is shocking.

Don’t worry y’all — there's a glimmer of hope shining through the AI-powered tunnel.

By harnessing the extraordinary capabilities of artificial intelligence, companies like Recursion are leading the charge in reshaping the drug development process.

Try this: Ready to imagine a bit with us? Good. Go check out this article on how AI is dreaming up drugs that we didn’t even know were possible, and how that impacts our future.

3 – The future of care is changing 🧬

What does Chris see when he looks into the crystal ball?

A decade from now, we might witness a seismic change in the pharmaceutical industry.

With the anticipated approval of the first medicine developed with AI assistance, the floodgates could open to a new era of drug development. That 12-15 year wait for a drug to go from ideation to the shelves? Take a decade off.

Try this: Will we still need drugs in 20 years? Will AI ever help us prevent disease or just treat it? Check out this new Forbes article on how AI is driving the future of our healthcare.
