1. OpenAI's GPT-4 Turbo: A New AI Powerhouse 🚀
OpenAI has unveiled GPT-4 Turbo, its most advanced AI model to date, during its first live event. GPT-4 Turbo boasts updated knowledge up to April 2023, a significant leap from the previous cutoff in January 2022. It can process inputs up to 300 pages, enabling it to summarize entire books, and includes DALL-E 3 AI-generated images and text-to-speech with six voices.
2. Xbox and Inworld AI Game Partnership 🎮
Xbox has announced a multi-year partnership with Inworld AI to develop AI-driven dialogue and narrative tools for game creators. This collaboration aims to harness Inworld AI's expertise in generative AI models for character development and Microsoft's advanced AI solutions, including Azure OpenAI Service. The partnership will produce tools that assist in designing dialogues, stories, and quests, and an AI character runtime engine for dynamic in-game storytelling.
3. Baidu's Strategic Shift in AI Chip Sourcing 💻
Baidu, one of China's leading AI firms, has placed an order for AI chips with Huawei, marking a strategic move away from its previous supplier, Nvidia. This decision is a response to US pressure, which is increasingly leading Chinese companies to seek alternatives to American technology. Huawei's AI chips are seen as a viable option for Baidu, indicating a growing acceptance of Huawei's products within China's tech industry.
4. Hollywood's AI Standoff: Actors vs. Studios 🎬
The Hollywood actors' union, SAG-AFTRA, has highlighted unresolved issues with major studios and streaming services, particularly regarding the use of artificial intelligence. A key concern for actors is the unauthorized use of their digital likenesses, as they push for explicit consent in the evolving landscape of AI technology in entertainment.
5. AI Negotiates Contract Without Humans ⚖️
For the first time, an AI has autonomously negotiated a contract with another AI, a feat accomplished by British AI firm Luminance. 🤷♂️ What’s Going On and Why It Matters:
AI is coming for our business.
(Whether it’s a help or a harm is up to you.)
So we all know it’s coming, but there’s one huge question on most people’s minds.
Mainly, how do we prepare?
We tackled that on today’s show of Everyday AI with Tina Yazdi, host of the AI-First Business Podcast.
In short, there’s a lotta legwork to do to prepare for an AI-first business world.
Our hot take — the rollouts of ChatGPT Enterprise and Microsoft 365 Copilot are quickly gonna shape the business landscape.
And completely change how we all work.
And whether you or your company are ready or not, Generative AI is going to become an integral part of how you work.
That’s why Tina’s insights are crucial to take in — the AI-first business world is around the corner.
Make sure to give today’s show a watch or listen, but here’s the major takeaways we covered:
The importance of data quality and collection
The approval and budgeting needed for integrating GenAI
The need for unsexy administrative work in implementing AI
Transition to an AI-first habit in organizations
Overcoming the perception of AI as a novelty game
The danger of eroding trust in AI with shaky foundations
Executives losing trust in AI due to a lack of results
Balancing long-term ROI and short-term ROI objectives for GenAI
Whew.
And that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Let’s break it down a bit more, and highlight top takeaways for you to leverage this in your biz.
🦾How You Can Leverage:
This isn’t one of those ‘crystal ball’ episodes where we talk about the cloudy future of AI.
Nah.
Today, we talked about the realities that the workplace is gonna become AI-centric. And probably sooner than you think.
How can you prepare for the inevitable?
With this 1-2-3 guide.
Let’s break it down and get prepped for the AI-first biz world. 👇
1 – Get real about the future️ 💭
Let’s be honest.
You’re reading a daily AI newsletter, and (hopefully!) listening to our daily podcast.
First box — checked!
But, things are about to get real shorty. We’ve been saying for many months how disruptive Microsoft 365 Copilot will be.
And with all of the recent ChatGPT Enterprise and Developer updates, things are gonna start moving fast. Our home take — Q1 of 2024 is gonna be the quarter of widespread AI adaption.
Try this:
Don’t fret. We’ve got you covered.
No matter what line of work you’re in, we’ve already produced dozens of podcast episodes, newsletters and in-depth newsletters covering so many areas of work.
Whether you’re in advertising, sales, education or entrepreneurship, our AI Tracks page has essential guides on how to get up to speed and ahead for when Generative AI comes speeding through the fast lane.
2 – Do the unsexy work first 😮💨
Not gonna lie y’all — Generative AI does some pretty amazing thangs.
All the bells. All the whistles. Endless possibilities…. All held up by ambiguity, governance and documentation.
(Gross, we know.)
Like Tina talked about, there’s a TON of unsexy work that has to be done before companies of any size can start to safely and securely tap into AI’s full potential.
Try this:
Here’s a (very incomplete) checklist of the grunt work you gotta do before you can leverage AI in your org:
- Governance (watch this episode)
- HR and compliance (watch this episode)
- Talk about privacy (watch this episode)
- Put it all into place (watch this episode)
3 – Short-term vs long-term ROI 💰
To get buy-in, you’ve gotta tackle the whole AI debate from multiple angles.
Tina broke down the bottom up and the top down approaches, and talked about how to shorten the trust gap in between.
In the end, having honest convos from top leadership all the way to entry level people who are using Generative AI are crucial.
And more importantly — focusing on both short-term and long-term ROI for generative AI. So, you’ve gotta have your data clean and know how AI impacts your bottom line.
Try this:
Measuring Return on Investment your jam? And is AI your Peanut Butter? If so, you gotta take a focused read on this report from Slalom, that lays the path on how to properly measure the ROI from artificial intelligence in the workplace.
