Hereās what you need to know.
1 ā Reports show Appleās AI moves š
According to a recent Bloomberg report, weāve got some more details on Appleās first official splash into Generative AI.
Hereās the gist:
Apple will announce an AI-powered iPhone on June 10 at their WWDC event. (Worldwide Developers Conference.)
Weāll see AI capabilities in Appleās standard apps: Siri, iWork, Messages, etc.
Apple is reportedly NOT going to be leverage its own internal large language model, as itās been reported it may instead partner with OpenAI or Google to bring AI to the iPhone.
And Appleās SVP of Marketing dropped a not-so-subtle hint. (Check the capitalization of āabsolutely incredibleā).
Mark your calendars for #WWDC24, June 10-14. Itās going to be Absolutely Incredible!

Also, could the color scheme be an indication of the LLM partnership that Apple might be forging to power its hardware?
Juan thought so.
Why it matters: Weāve talked about Edge AI and how itās the future of how we all interact with the physical world. And Apple normally sets the bar for how we interact with technology.
But whatever Apple announces in June in terms of in-device AI will set the tone for how we all interact with AI in the future.
2 ā Microsoft and OpenAIās $100B partnership š¤
Thatās a lotta zeros. š³
According to reports, Microsoft and OpenAI are partnering to build a supercomputer slash data center slash data goldmine called Stargate.
The project could cost up to $100 billion, featuring an AI supercomputer that houses millions of AI chips named "Stargate" set to launch in 2028.
This collaboration highlights the significant investments being made in AI infrastructure, signaling a major advancement in AI computing that could have far-reaching implications for various industries and technological advancements.
Why it matters: Just like UXL (More on that in #4 below) this $100 billion partnership between Microsoft and OpenAI is a direct shot at NVIDIAās dominance.
If nothing else, this report shows Microsoftās commitment to OpenAI, which we talked about a little last week.
As hard as companies try, no oneās been able to catch NVIDIA which is powering the Geneative AI revolution.
3 ā Voice Engineās shocking results š¤Æļø
Is this real?
Every time OpenAI teases a new modality, we kinda catch ourselves saying that.
OpenAI just released a preview of its new AI voice cloning tech, Voice Engine.
The results are prettyā¦. ughā¦. scary? Good? Amazing? (Not sure what to call it.)
Apparently, less than a dozen people have access to the tech now, and thereās no scheduled release date to the public.
However, thereās reportedly some partners with early access to Voice Engine including Age of Learning, HeyGen, Dimagi, Livox, and Lifespan, showcasing diverse applications from pre-scripted voice-overs to real-time student responses.
What it means: Voice Engine sounds scary good. And kinda just scary. Whatās pretty impressive is the ability to replicate voices with only 15 seconds of source audio.
Most other AI voice cloning options require much more source audio and deliver less realistic outputs.
We kinda hope OpenAI waits to release this (and probably Sora) until after the 2024 U.S. elections, as voice cloning has already given democracy a slap in the face.
4 ā Competitors unite against NVIDIA āļø
What will it take to bring down a tech juggernaut in NVIDIA?
Apparently a handful of NVIDIAās closest competitors, uniting together in the name of Open Source.
A group including Intel, Google, Arm, Qualcomm, and Samsung is developing an open-source software suite called the Unified Acceleration Foundation (UXL) to counter Nvidia's AI market domination.
NVIDIA has dominated the GPU hardware and software space, which all Generative AI companies need in order to build their products.
The UXL project aims to prevent AI developers from being locked into Nvidia's proprietary CUDA platform, allowing code to run on any machine and chip. The UXL project initially aims to broaden options for AI and high-performance computing applications, with plans to eventually support Nvidia's hardware and code.
What it means: Will this make a dent in NVIDIAās dominance? Probably not much, but time will tell. Regardless, this joint venture is a signal at how much Big Tech realizes that thereās a HUGE gap between NVIDIAās compute capabilities and everyone else.
The combination of the $100 billion Microsoft/OpenAI Stargate project and UXL dropping in one week goes to show that companies are more willing to collaborate with so much market share at stake.
