The past week in AI has been nutty. 🐿️
🎬 OpenAI released their text-to-video model.
✨ Gemini released an updated version to Ultra, just DAYS after its first release.
🗣️ NVIDIA launched its Chat with RTX software for free.
👋 And one of the brightest minds in AI left OpenAI.
And that's only the half of it.
Let’s dive into what’s going on in the world of Generative AI, and why it matters to you.
1 – OpenAI releases Sora 🎥
We honestly didn’t believe this was real when it was first announced.
But it’s real, and here’s a little side-by-side we did with actual Sora prompts that we ran in Runway’s text-to-video.
🫣ummmm. Can we talk about this #Sora vs. #runwayml comparison?

Here’s the gist:
OpenAI released Sora, a cutting-edge text-to-video model currently not accessible to the public. It's in the safety testing and design phase with select individuals getting VIP previews.
Why it matters:
Sora's remarkable advancements not only push the boundaries of what's possible in text-to-video technology but also hint at significant progress toward achieving more advanced AI capabilities.
We’ll be talking about the REAL impact of this tomorrow:
2 – Google Gemini updates to Ultra 1.5 ✨
Google dropped the mic by releasing an update to Ultra - Gemini Ultra 1.5.
This upgraded version offers a staggering million-token context window for enterprise customers.
The model is also only available in Google’s AI Studio or Vertex AI, and not in the default Gemini interface.
Also, why is the 1.5 update only like 6 days after the Ultra 1.0 update?
(Maybe they saw our overview of Google Gemini Advanced. lol)
Anyways, Google said Ultra 1.5 brings significant improvements, including a million-token context window for enterprise customers and an 87% performance increase on benchmarks.
Why it matters:
The expanded context window and performance boost in Ultra 1.5 signify a notable step forward in the evolution of large language models, promising enhanced memory capabilities and overall efficiency.
Well… when we all get to try it, at least?
3 – NVIDIA releases Chat with RTX 💻
NVIDIA's new free software, Chat with RTX is creating waves.
The caveat?
It requires specific PC and NVIDIA GPU specifications while supporting file searches and data incorporation.
Its focus on retrieval augmented generation (RAG) really ups the user experience, pointing towards a future where AI can assist in a more tailored and efficient manner.
(And locally on a dedicated machine. Small models FTW!)
Why it matters:
This software opens up a new horizon of possibilities for users with the right equipment! It's a significant advancement in personal AI applications expanding accessibility to high-quality AI tools.
Keep an eye on this - it could revolutionize how we engage with digital data.
4 – Andrej Karpathy leaves OpenAI 👋
One of the OGs at OpenAI is no more.
Andrej Karpathy's departure from OpenAI marks a significant transition in the leadership of one of the most influential AI organizations.
As a key figure in the field of artificial intelligence, his decision to pursue personal projects hints at potential shifts in AI development strategies and directions.
Why it matters:
This is significant as Karpathy is considered an AI authority. His move draws attention to the upcoming work from both Karpathy and OpenAI.
Get your popcorn ready y’all - we could be looking at exciting things on the horizon!
Look to see what Karpathy does next in the AI agents/assistants space, and see how (or if!) this impacts OpenAI’s movements in the same space.
5 – Big tech banding together on AI 🤝
In an unlikely pairing, Big Tech companies are joining forces to combat AI disinformation and misinformation, particularly in relation to U.S. elections.
The collaboration among major tech companies to combat election-related misinformation using AI is a big step forward to safeguard democratic processes.
The collab is a who’s-who of AI: Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, Amazon, TikTok, IBM, Snap, X and others are all on board.
Why it matters:
This joint commitment to addressing AI-related challenges in elections highlights the importance of ethical AI usage and responsible data handling practices.
Will it help?
Or is it too little, too late?
6 – Reddit enters large AI licensing deal 👀
Reddit is crushing boundaries, signing a colossal $60 million annual AI content deal.
Reddit's strategic licensing agreement with an unnamed prominent AI company, is estimated at $60 million annually.
This represents a shift towards formal data acquisition methods in the AI industry.
Why it matters:
As we talked about in the case of the New York Times lawsuit against OpenAI, content licensing is going to be the wave of the future.
It’s no secret that the majority of GenAI models are trained off of largely copyrighted data.
This reported Reddit deal could create a shift in the landscape as platforms become aware of their precious data mines.
