1. Google's Gemini AI Launch Postponed to 2024 🫤

Google has delayed the launch of its next-generation AI model, Gemini, to early 2024. Initially set for a 2023 debut, Gemini faced challenges with non-English prompts, leading to the postponement. Touted to surpass OpenAI's GPT-4 in capabilities, Gemini is a multimodal AI, processing text, images, and other content types.

2. Runway and Getty Images Partnership 🎥

Runway has partnered with Getty Images to offer a legally secure text-to-video engine. This collaboration addresses the growing need for AI tools that protect against copyright infringement, a concern for many businesses. Runway's deal with Getty allows companies to safely integrate their intellectual property with AI technology. While pricing details are pending, the service is currently available to enterprise customers, with a potential self-service option in the future.

3. Meta's AI Chief Skeptical About AGI and Quantum Computing 🤖

Yann LeCun, Meta's chief AI scientist, expresses skepticism about the near-term realization of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) and the practicality of quantum computing. Contrasting with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang's optimistic view on AI, LeCun believes current AI systems are decades away from human-level intelligence. He argues that text-based training, the foundation of modern language models, is insufficient for developing advanced AI.

4. OpenAI's $51 Million AI Chip Deal with Rain AI 💰

OpenAI, under CEO Sam Altman, signed a letter of intent to purchase $51 million worth of AI chips from startup Rain AI. Rain AI, specializing in neuromorphic processing units (NPUs) that mimic the human brain, is a venture Altman has personally invested in. This deal highlights OpenAI's commitment to securing advanced AI hardware, crucial for its pioneering projects like ChatGPT.

5. Nvidia's Commitment to Japan's AI and Semiconductor Growth 🇯🇵

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has pledged to prioritize supplying AI processors to Japan, responding to the country's surging demand and efforts to revitalize its semiconductor industry. Japan's recent budget includes significant investment in chip technology, with plans to support ventures like TSMC and Rapidus for advanced chip manufacturing. Huang's commitment aligns with Japan's strategic push to develop its own AI capabilities and semiconductor infrastructure.

🤷‍♂️ What’s Going On and Why It Matters:

About a year ago, AI video was a gimmick.

As we sprint/walk/crawl into 2024, though, it’s a legit contender.

We looked at the state of AI video today on Everyday AI, and … it’s a game-changer.

Jordan took a deep-ish dive on today’s episode on some recent changes in the GenAI video landscape.

And if you haven’t seen the news, this recent announcement of Pika Labs 1.0 has grabbed all the headlines. 👇

So, what is the actual state of AI video?

It’s moving quicker than you might think.

Here’s the latest news, all of which just happened in the last two weeks:

  • Pika Labs also announced they’ve raised $55 million dollars as they prepare to drop the 1.0 update.

  • Runway recently closed a $141 million funding round with investments from Google, Salesforce, NVIDIA and others. And just before the Pika Labs 1.0 announcement, they rolled out some nice updates of their own.

  • Dark horse in the space? Meta. The Facebook parent company recently announced its latest text-to-video offering, Emu Video. A little behind others in terms of quality, don’t count Emu out. They’ve got a little demo here to try out.

If you think ChatGPT and other LLMs made a splash over the last year or so, wait until the AI video wave that’s incoming.

Let’s talk about what it all means.

And…. Action! 🎬

🦾How You Can Leverage:

Text-to-video probably won’t impact you or your business, right?

(Wrong)

Think of the impact ChatGPT has had on the world of business. It’s the spark that set the content creation world ablaze. And that’s just…. text.

What happens when the quality of AI video gets near the quality of AI-generated text?

  • Communication changes.

  • Advertising changes.

  • Consumer spending habits change.

  • Everything…. Changes.

Our hot take?

AI video is gonna be more disruptive in the end than AI-generated text.

Here’s what you need to know on how AI video may impact your biz, career or even personal life:

1 – Rise of short storytelling 🤖

Yeah, that’s around the corner.

Imagine being able to convey powerful narratives in a matter of seconds, grabbing attention and resonating with audiences in ways that transcends traditional text-based communication.

Here’s the reality — consumer dynamics are shifting. Video sells. So, expect the rise of short storytelling soon.

Try this: Still not convinced on the future and quality of AI-generated short storytelling? Go check this article from Techopedia that shows 10 incredible examples of AI-generated videos.

2 – Deprioritization of text 🔤

This kinda hurts to type, TBH.

But yeah, words are going to hold less and less weight in the near future.

In short — large language models like ChatGPT, Google Bard and Anthropic’s Claude have made words kinda… cheap. We’re all drowning in a sea of mediocre, AI-generated content.

AI video will start to make the written word less important.

How can you prepare in your career or company? Think: short videos instead of written emails, In Real Life presentations and pitches over sales emails, and even bespoke AI avatars and digital twins for personalized training and onboarding. Text is gonna lose its impact.

Try this: AI-generated text is so 2022. Read this report from Personify, that shows that 80% of people prefer video over written text. (We’d expect that number to be in the 90s by 2024!)

3 – More personalized advertising 🪞

A side effect of AI videos being higher quality?

Your wallet is about to get bombarded because of higher quality AI video advertising.

As Jordan pointed out, advertisers are going to have a field day and a half with AI generated videos.

Normally, it’s only companies with deep pockets or talented creative teams that can produce creative video advertising. With tools like Pika Labs 1.0, Runway and others, expect small brands to leverage video advertising in a BIG way.

On a personal note, good luck saying ‘no’ to all these personalized videos tailored for you from brands of all sizes.

Try this: As we shared above, this Runway-Getty Images partnership announced today will change advertising as we know it. Personalized, AI-powered video advertising will be one of the hottest topics advertisers and marketers will talk about in 2024.
