1. Google Signs $250 Million Deal to Support California Journalism 🤝

Google has secured a significant agreement with California lawmakers to provide $250 million over the next five years to bolster newsrooms across the state. This deal allows Google to sidestep a proposed law that would have required payment for linking Californians to news articles, with $180 million designated for local news outlets and $70 million for AI resources.

However, the arrangement has faced criticism for its lack of transparency and for not adequately addressing the industry's ongoing challenges.

2. Microsoft To Release Controversial Recall Feature 😨

According to reports, Microsoft is set to launch its AI feature, Recall, for Windows Insiders in October, but it’s already attracting scrutiny. This functionality captures screenshots of users’ activities to facilitate easier information searches, prompting security experts to voice concerns about potential privacy risks.

The company has assured that Recall will be disabled by default and is enhancing security measures following previous breaches.

(Side note… we’re all for this. Bring it on!)

3. BrightEdge Unleashes First Insights of SearchGPT 🤯

BrightEdge has released a comprehensive report, detailing the capabilities of SearchGPT, OpenAI’s innovative search engine currently in its prototype phase. Unlike traditional search engines like Google and Perplexity, SearchGPT emphasizes conversational interactions, retaining context to provide users with tailored follow-up answers and in-depth responses.

The report highlights SearchGPT's focus on transparency through clear citations and related source links, enhancing user engagement and informed decision-making in their search journeys.

4. Perplexity AI Unveils Ambitious Advertising Strategy 🧠

Perplexity AI is set to launch a bold advertising plan in the fourth quarter, aiming to capitalize on its growing user base of 230 million monthly users and 2 million app downloads. The company is introducing a revenue-sharing model that will allow publishers to earn money whenever their content is cited in response to user queries.

Initially targeting key categories like technology, health, and finance, Perplexity plans to implement a CPM (cost per thousand impressions) model to attract advertisers looking to sponsor relevant questions and answers.

5. OpenAI Challenges California's Proposed AI Safety Regulations ⚖️

OpenAI is expressing serious concerns about California's SB 1047, a bill that seeks to impose safety standards on AI companies, arguing it could hinder innovation and drive talent away from the state. In a letter to State Senator Scott Wiener, OpenAI emphasized that the legislation might have significant implications for U.S. competitiveness and national security.

While Wiener defends the bill as necessary for preventing potential AI-related disasters, critics, including former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have labeled it “ill-informed.”

6. Neuralink Achieves Success with Second Patient Trial 🧠

Neuralink has reported promising results with its second trial patient, Alex, who is using a brain implant to control digital devices. Unlike the first patient, Noland, who experienced "thread retraction" issues after surgery, Alex's implant is functioning well, allowing him to play video games and design 3D objects.

This advancement is significant for individuals with spinal cord injuries, as it showcases the potential of brain-computer interfaces

Did you know there are ChatGPT capabilities exclusive to the app that you CAN’T get on the web version?

We’re showing you 3 secret features on the ChatGPT desktop app that are available to all users.

🦾How You Can Leverage:

One area of AI that’s legit exploding this month?

AI image generators.

And let’s be honest…. A year or two ago, they were just kinda cool toys.

Now, they’re creative powerhouses that can make your biz go boom.

Whether you’re a scrappy startup or a household enterprise name, you’ve gotta pay attention to Generative AI tools for image generation.

Oh…. The past week or so?

New update from Imagen3. (See our video here

Hot update from Ideogram 2.0 (See our video here

And Flux.1 has been making the internet go crazy. (Kinda with disinformation, but we’ll get to that.)

In other words — you HAVE to start paying closer attention to this space.

No longer party tricks, these new and improved AI tools are changing the way we all see the world.

Today, we took a live (and kinda tech-glitch filled) look at what’s new and what you need to know.

Ready for the tl;dw version?

Here’s what you need to know. 👇

1 – The 101 of AI Images 🧑‍🎨

Picture this…

(Pun totes intended.)

You type in a few words into a magical black box, and boom!

An AI spits out an image that looks like it took a pro photographer hours to capture.

All of a sudden:

- Your business has better artwork for its blog post

- That new ad campaign has improved visuals (and ROAS)

- Next year’s event board is already coming to life

- That building rendering looks way better than a sketch now

…. You get the point.

AI images change what’s possible for your company, regardless of its size.

Here’s the super high level: These bad boys start with random noise - think TV static - and slowly turn that mess into a masterpiece through a method called diffusion.

How?

By learning from billions of photos. (We’re not diving into the legalities of that… that’s for another episode.)

It's like they've seen every Instagram post ever, every stock photo ever, and every award-winning campaign ever and can now whip up any scene you can dream up.

Best part?

You don't need to be some AI whisperer to make it happen.

Just type "photorealistic image of a beach at sunset" into Midjourney's shiny new web interface, hit enter, and watch the magic unfold.

No more Discord shenanigans - it's point, click, and drool over your new creation.

Try this:

Although the popular Midjourney may be losing its competitive advantage, we’ve already tapped into the Midjourney Masterminds multiple times on the Everyday AI show

Hop onto Midjourney's web platform (yeah, it's free now!) and cook up your own beachy paradise. Or, an improved photo for that flyer from 2017.

Then share it with your team and watch their jaws drop when you tell 'em it took you all of 10 seconds.

2 – The Changes Have Been Jaw-Dropping 🎯

Photos speak louder than words.

Check out this same prompt we ran in Midjourney, about 18 months apart.

Wowza. And this is a very basic, one-take attempt.

Remember when AI art looked like a toddler's finger painting after three espressos?

Yeah, those days are dead and buried.

The old version?

Straight outta some janky video game from the 90s.

The new one?

You'd swear it was a legit photo shoot.

That’s why you’ve GOTTA start paying attention.

Try this:

We get what you’re saying — so what?

AI image generators don’t affect me!

(Ughhh…. They will eventually.)

TBH, in the same way that so many people are designing PowerPoints and pitch decks nowadays who aren’t designers, we see a near future where more people are using AI image generators than not.

But, we think these throwback newsletters can open up your eyes.

Over the course of a two-day span, we built a brand LIVE based on audience feedback.

This will show you some fun use-cases of how important AI imagery can be.

3 – The Competition is Red-Hot 🧍

Alright, let’s get straight to the point.

Midjourney has legit dominated this space for about 18 months.

That all changed this week.

In this month alone, we’ve seen the rise of 3 pretty serious competitors in Imagen3, Ideogram 2.0 and Flux 1.

Try this:

Get to know the new names in AI image generation. (We don’t think they’re going anywhere. So get used to it.)

(*Jay-Z voice*)

Allow us to re-introduce themselves…..

We've got Google's Imagen 3 strutting in with an interface so slick it'll make you weep. Our host is crushing hard on this one, calling it his fave.

Why? It's got these nifty dropdowns that let you tweak your image on the fly.

Beach not beachy enough?

Click and swap it for a desert. Boom, done.

Then there's Ideogram 2.0, fresh outta the oven and serving up some serious Instagram vibes.

(Seriously… it’s barely 24 hours old.)

These ex-Google folks are flexing hard, especially when it comes to text in images. Logos, banners - you name it, they nail it.

And don't sleep on Flux.

This open-source newbie came outta nowhere and's got everyone buzzing. It's like the wild child of the bunch - no guardrails, total freedom.

Exciting? Heck yes.

Little scary? You bet.

I mean… what could go wrong?
